33 Comments on When kids were happy with just a few toys and a friend. Girls with doll.
Donna, my daughter used to love dolls. She wanted one called a Chatty Cathy (I think that was it but could have been one that the hair grew) so bad that we promised her one if she'd stop sucking her thumb. She was a but 4 or 5. She quit and got the doll. I was really proud of her for doing that. Your dad was a smart man to make you do that!!
Wow! and double Wow, that picture of Anita is better than salt rising bread. Riding jodphurs and boots plus a doll stroller with bell. That's a Norman Rockwell class picture for sure. I hope you still have the stroller as well.
Don, Anita thanks you for that enthusiastic comment. She was a charmer, wasn't she? That stroller would sell for a lot of ebay!! Probably.
That is so cute! I don't remember those times, but I watch alot of movies on TCM and wish I'd been around when a woman could wear a hat and gloves to the cinemas and even a modest crinoline under her wide brimmed skirt when giving smart cocktail parties... those were the days for real style... ok and big yards :p
I love the little girl with the doll, she is making her own style - long before sailormoon, there was Anita :)
C
C....and don't forget wearing high heeled shoes while doing all that! I thank you for the comment and Anita will thank you even more.
Anita has emailed me this copy of her doll. She didn't play with it enough to get it dirty! LOL
Barbara,
Yes, it costs money and lasts about 30 minutes.
One more comment about the doll and then we must put her to bed, literally. That I didn't play with her much is true, and some years ago I took her to Mary Beth Dowlnng, in Searcy.....Mary Beth is an expert on dolls and collects them, etc. I thought my doll might be worth something on today's market but according to M.B. she isn't. She's probably only about 68 yrs. old. Mary Beth took the old pic. and had new clothes made for her, clothes similar to the original ones. I think that was a very nice thing to do.....but I wonder to this day, why she didn't put white buttons on her jacket (original) instead of black ones?

PS. Several Searcy readers are helping me try and i.d. the little girl with me. We just MAY be on the right trail.
Anita, you are right. She NEEDS white buttons. You could do that yourself! : ) I have confidence that you'll find the friend who was with you. Hope she doesn't mind being on the net!
Yes, My mom wore high heels to vaccum the house and she re-applied her red lipstick several times a day... she was so hot :) well, she still is.. hee hee
I do love old pictures like that and the old houses. I listed one awhile back that had so much history, that I just had to share! I called the local news station and shared some of those old memories with the world and it felt so good to find one of the past owners and get them back some of their treasures. Ahhh, the times when you didn't have to lock your doors. (1-3)
1st Metropolitan Mortgage, your mom DID NOT wear high heels to clean house unless she was on TV or in the movies!! Women were too sensible to do that but they sure did it in the movies. And even those high heels were more sensible than ones worn by women today!! Thanks for comment.
Todd, the old pictures are lots of fun, especially the black and white ones. This one had lots of memories!
I thouroughly enjoyed that post.
Tony and Libby, thanks for the comment. I really enjoyed putting this post up.
Barbara - What a great picture! It does bring back memories of simpler days... :)
Debi, the simpler days were something, weren't they? Thanks for comments.
Barbara,
