Shelter Rock is the southeastern area of Danbury along the Bethel line. About half of the area was built for soldiers & their families returning home from World War II. Since the 1980s, much of the remaining land have changed zoning from light industry into multi family developments. The variety of the condo products accommodates a variety of budgets & lifestyles.
The Newtown Road shopping centers are right down the hill from Shelter Rock Road. The area saw the first commercial shopping centers in Danbury. Today, there is a Stop & Shop, Target, Walmart, Home Goods, Marshalls & Expect Discounts Store among other stores along Newtown Road. Dining options include Friendly’s, Chili's, Bertucci’s, Ichario and Bangkok. Also, there are a few small hair & nail salons, a couple of hotels and a couple of fast food resturants.
Commuting Information- Shelter Rock is close to major shopping on Newtown Road, & exit 8 for commuting for points east, west & south yet 10 minutes from the New York State Line. Highway access is 4 minutes away. In addition, drivers can also cut through the south end of Main Street and hook around the Wooster Heights residential neighborhood & connect to Route 7 and I-84 at the Danbury Airport exit in about 6 minutes.
Condominium Living- Condominium living is the most popular real estate choice in the Shelter Rock area in Danbury. Half of the condos are size of small homes,but are nice places to live & are relatively easy to take care of (Birchwood, Summerset, Autumn Ridge & Berkshire Hills) & were built in the middle 1980s. Units in the Arlington Woods & the Knolls average about 1600 square feet and were completed in 2005. Woodland Hills and Tobin’s Court are considered among the high end condo options in the Danbury area with units reaching in size up to about 3200 square feet. Woodland Hills does have 7 different floor plans with 2 & 3 bedroom designs with high end facilites for residents to enjoy.
Home Prices-Most homes in the east side of Danbury to sell between $230,000-$275,000. Prices start in the high $100,000s for a 1 bedroom condo at Westwood Village & run up to the high $400,000 for a totally upgraded unit in Woodland Hills or Tobin’s Court.
