Paying Attention to the Little Things makes a BIG Difference

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Realty 0575737

LittleThingsThroughout my life I have personally been terrible at the details. I like to scope out the big picture and delegate the details to others when they turn to a maddening level for me. Others are incredibly good with details. Nature has compensated me for not being good with the operational side of details by having keen powers of observation when seeing details, especially related to kindness or caring with people. I always note these things.

Paying Attention to the Little Things makes a BIG Difference.

In noting and doing the "little things" for others there is a huge leverage effect. Not only all the good feelings you generate with them but they will tell others. From a business perspective this can mean referrals. From a life perspective you are making the world a better place.

Bringing water bottles in the car in summertime, closing gifts, asking how people are doing, friendly followup, just caring and being a decent human being. Is that too hard to ask?

Work diligently to provide the "little things" that show you care in life. It will be time on your part VERY WELL SPENT.

Gary- I agree! The devil's in the details, but it's the little things that do make a big difference sometimes. Thanks for the post!

Some of us look at the big picture and some of us love minutia.

I like the big picture.  In fact, I have always learned conceptually and not by memorization.

The big picture.

I don't care about how things work.  I just want things to do what they're supposed to do.

I am really good with the little things...so good, in fact, that the big picture is often miles TOO big for my creative comprehension...I work best on a team---or at least with someone who really gets and operates in the big picture arena! I'm a lot like shoe polish... I can make you shine as long as you're doing the walking... I'm quite at home behind the scenes...doing elf magic--- LOL... I do LOVE this photo you used...it certainbly tells a beautiful story.

Gary...

When working a subdivision in the heat of summer, if we saw a car stop at one of the house we would walk over there with ice cold bottles water. That totally disarmed the lookers, and it was so easy to strike up a conversation!

I love to be the takers of the little things in life. It does make me feel good when others notice that I am aware of their little needs and wishes. It's called thoughtfulness. It makes the receiving person feels one tad extra special.

Gary - in my world a stack of 'little things' soon becomes a BIG stack.

Giving is easier than many people think.  Many folks thing giving involves money - but in fact the best gift anyone can receive is a few minutes of your undivided attention.  It goes a long way and is not soon forgotten.

Gary, I always bring a water bottle for my buyers.  I had a buyer referred to me by his sister, who bought the year before.  When I handed him a bottle, he smiled and said, my sister said you would bring water!  The little things do mean a lot!

Thanks for reminding us what we all should know.  In my business, it is crucial that I pay very close attention to the details (lucky for me I am a perfectionist!) for that is what makes me stand out from my competition

You always have the neatest blogs... Ive noticed you often look at things from a different angle.

Life is simple really it comes down to caring and doing something like showing up with a tray of coffees, donuts whatever. I dont look at it like being a suck up just a good person..... keep up your excellent posts

Marketing Naples FL  As usual, you are right. The small details make ALL the difference. I think I learned this perspective through my children.  Children are great at looking at the little things that we sometimes judge meaningless and turn it into a life-chaning experience.

Being a true friend or companion could be expressed in something as simple as a smile, gesture or holding a hand.

Of course, in business, attention to detail is paramount, and just like you said, little "thank you's" are big!

Thank you, Gary.

Working in Arizona, I have always tried to supply a cold bottle of water for any clients I am showing houses to.  I am surprised at how many agents do not even consider this when temperatures are averaging 110 degrees in the summer time. Caring about others, and being a decent human being is definately not too much to ask for.
