Forbes.com discovered which cities in the U.S. were the best for SINGLES in 2008. It was based on the following categories -- Coolness, Cost of Living, Culture, Job Growth, Online Dating, Nightlife and Singles (ratio).

If you happen to be in one of these twenty five cities, then you should consider doing some "tribal marketing" to this group.  It does not mean you need to limit selling real estate to just this group, but rather develop a strategic marketing approach that meets the particular needs of this group, while also marketing to other groups. We try to do that at MovingHelp.com.

I believe one of the biggest mistakes we make in marketing is taking a "Shotgun" approach --- blasting out marketing materials hoping "One Size Fits All." Instead, we need to develop marketing campaigns that are focused on one group of consumers at a time.   For those in these cities --- start marketing to singles.

Which city on the list surprises you? I am surprised Las Vegas was ranked so low (24th).

I'm soooo not surprised my hometown of Salem, Oregon didn't make the list! We're pretty boring here.

I don't know...when it comes to COOLNESS -- Salem, Oregon is a pretty cool place. I have been there -- almost moved there. I think you are about an hour or so from the Oregon coast. Really a beautiful place. Plus, Salem has to be cool --- Cecily Parks lives there. :)

Thanks for the comment on my old blog post (April 08), Kevin.  Just goes to show what we say here has a long shelf life!

Yes, Salem is cool but there isn't much nightlife....I would hate to be single here. We are an hour to the coast, an hour to Portland, an hour to Eugene and an hour to the mountains so we are centrally located. Also, it's wine country here with over a hundred winery's so that's good....and the summers are beautiful. If only they lasted a little longer.

Norma - What you blog about has a long shelf life? Scary. Glad I already went through my divorce pre-blogosphere.  :)

Cecily - Summers are too short in Salem? Ahh, that is why I moved to Phoenix from Boise, Idaho. Beautiful there too, but as my daughter told me -- Boise is suppose to be 11 degrees on Saturday. Phoenix is INCREDIBLE. I should have moved here 20 years ago.

Jim - Come on now. I think it is because single men love the accents of those southern belles. I know I do.

Phoenix at #10?  Hell, I can't believe we weren't higher based on weather alone!  (Warmer weather = less clothing = good for singles.)

Sharon - Good point. Plus, those beautiful palm trees add an exotic feel to the place...which can create the mood for romance.
