Below are two image's I recorded of fishing boats at Chincoteague, Va. on Assateague Island in Accomack County on Virginia's Eastern Shore. Chincoteague is best known for the Chincoteague Ponies made famous by Marguerite Henry's children's book Misty of Chincoteague.

Most of Assateague Island is preserved as The Assateague Island National Shore and the Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge and is well worth a visit for the beautiful beaches, Assateague lighthouse, wildlife, and driving on the beach in your properly equipped 4x4, with a permit issued by the park.

Bryant, I thank your for sharing.   It has been about 17 years since I had my SUV beach permit for Chincoteaque Island, camped and visited many times.  I just drove back up from my parents in SC and was going to take the long route home on Rt. 13 to Chincoteague, since it has been many years but was afraid to hit holiday traffic.  I flew into Myrtle Beach, SC arrived @ 9:00am pick up their auto and drove straightback to southern NJ, took me about 11 1/2 hours, I could not believe that I did the whole drive by my self.........I did the trip both ways in December with my son as it was my parents 50th wedding anniversary..................I BLARED THE MUSIC, HAVE A TRIPLE SHOT OF ESPRESSO IN NORTHERN NC...........BLAST MORE MUSIC AND I RETURNED HOME SAFELY.

I will most likely drive down in August to Surfside, SC, and will most likely try a week and a half vacation, come back on 301 and a must is Chincoteague as my son has never been.  Let alone we live at the southern New Jersey shore area were it is all homes on the beach, at least he has a little taste of SC beach's, were I am on the 5 year plan to move.

Have a wonderful Holiday Season.   J

Lisa-

The second image is my favorite as well, I am printing it at 16x20, matting it, and going to have it framed and hang in my office. I'm glad you enjoyed it as well.

I apologize for my relatively long absence, the holiday's are always my busiest time of year photographically, plus I have just committed to helping my wife with Marketing her business and building and maintaining a website for her. Plus I am just starting on a book project that will require about two years to complete and will involve travel to most of the eastern seaboard states so I am crazy busy right now! I will juggle all that with my Activerain commitments as I have missed sharing new images with and chatting with you all.

Take care and happy Holidays!

Julie-

The triple espresso sounds great right now!!! Your son will enjoy Chincoteague and the beaches, as they are some of the last undeveloped coast on the barrier islands and one of the few undeveloped coastlines on the eastern seaboard in general. I am planning on taking my Jeep on the beach this winter and go explore the old fish cannery at the southern end of the Chincoteague wildlife refuge. Enjoy your visit and travel safe!

Happy Holidays!!!

Nice Photos!  Another reason I love this area - photographic opportunities with water involved!

Arthur and I love the national seashores - Ocracoke is one of our favorites, also.  Arthur is from the NJ shore and he still has sand in his hair :)  Karen

Karen-I grew up in this area and have saltwater in my veins, my wife is from the mountains but she still managed to get some saltwater in her veins, I can't drag here away from the ocean!
