Recession? What recession? Oh, you mean that thing that supposedly we're getting ready to have, or that maybe already happened and we're moving out of?

Well, if you believe that we might be heading for or have already been in a recession (I don't), take heart.

The people that think they know finally announced that they think we're in a recession - they're not real sure. That's OK, I'm not participating anyway - neither should you.

Besides, most of the time that they get around to making such an official announcment, the supposed recession (because no one really knows when it startes or even if there is one) is either over or winding down.

All this points to a great 2009. Consumer confidence should be rebounding. Attitudes should be improving. It's a great time to be in sales.

That is odd that we hear about being in a recession since December of 07.

Choosing to participate in a recession is vital.  So many small market areas are doing well that without the newsmedia, the R word wouldn't matter.  Turn it off!

Steve- I like your attitude.  Maybe we could climb out of it, if we were ever in it, if people just declared, "we refuse to participate in the recession."

Steve.. The way I look at it, it is just the media trying to drum up business, by selling air space on the radios and newspapers.. because sales must be down.  Sales are down due to their view point.  What is that saying.. What goes around comes around.

Maybe the public should start to think outside the box.  Isn't that a novel idea.

Mike,

Really it isn't. Since there are mixed economic indicators, not everyone can agree. It usually takes a year or so for the announcement to be made. :)

Jeremy,

You are right, and your area is doing very well without it. Great hearing from you. :)

Hi Steve

They say we may be in a recession or a depression it could have stated last year or it could have stated this or maybe it will start next. The only question is who "they",

Good luck and success

Steve, I am with you - recession?  What is that?

7:44pm • #8

By official definition, a recession is two consecutive quarters of economic downturn.  It seems, however, that "they" cannot agree on what amounts to an 'economic downturn'.  My conclusion: Who cares what "they" think?  Make your own happiness/prosperity! :-)

They don't know diddly.  I'm just gonna keep on working with buyers and helping them find the real estate they want.  I'm gonna keep working for my sellers to get their homes sold.

Local News is saying since we're in a recession, a lot of folks are "now" turning to consignment shops.  Huh?  I've always shopped consignment shops.  The only thing that kept me from selling at consignment is that it was easier to yard sale them.  I have ALWAYS shopped frugally - does that mean I've always been in a recession?

Recession or no recession, wouldn't you rather be living in a nice home you love, and not an old crappy one that your family has grown out of?  Great post, Steve.

Marilyn,

That idea is just too simple for folks to grasp. There are actually those who enjoy being victims - it gives them an excuse for not trying as hard. :)

Valerie,

I really think the public likes the idea of a recession. It gives them something to complain about. :)

Lou,

Excellent. They are not us. They are the unseen, unknown ones who affect public policy and attitudes. :)

Precisely. Whio cares what they think? We should govern our lives and businesses based on them? :)

I'm not an expert economist but I did read an blog the other day about this subject. He said that according to the recent report that we WERE in a recession, and that we have been in one since December of last year. He also said that he read an article stating that a recession usually lasts between 12 to 16 months. If we in fact were in a recession last December, we should be set for a rebound by next spring/summer. If that's the case- awesome- bring on the recession! I will be here waiting when things turn around again!

Nicole,

If we really have been in the big, bad dreaded recession for a year, we've survived just fine. So we should do great in '09. :)

Ann,

By not going along with the media and all the people who keep talking about the situation, we can make ourselves feel better - and maybe even them. :)
