A Day in the Life of a Northern Michigan Realtor....brrrrr!!

Real Estate Agent with Modern Realty 6502362712

When I woke up this morning I really didn't want to get out of bed...I just hate getting out of bed to a cool house.  Thankfully I could hear the hum of the furnace and knew my husband had kicked the heat up a few notches, and I could smell the coffee brewing.  So get out of bed I did, into the warm shower and then into my closet to get long underwear, warm socks, pants, a shirt and sweatshirt to go over it.  Next, out to the garage to start my car so that my son and I can enjoy a cozy ride to school.  When I'm sure the car has warmed up we both put on our coats, hats, boots and gloves and head out for the day.

With my son safely at school I drive to my first showing appointment with my newest clients.  We meet at the house and both park on the road because the drive hasn't been plowed of the six fresh inches of snow we received overnight.  After I scrape the snow away from the storm door so that it will open and I get my frozen fingers to work the lockbox, we enter the cold house and begin to look around.  We do this  at two more houses and boots or no boots my feet are cold and my fingers are numb!

After this appointment is over I get 45 minutes in the office to catch up on some paperwork and head out to my next appointment.  These clients need access to their soon to be new home to take some measurements.  The house is located at the bottom of a hill and after sliding a bit past the driveway on the icy gravel road I once again park at the road and trudge to the house with clients in tow.  This house is unheated as well and we spend an hour measuring, shivering and discussing remodeling ideas through the fog that our breath is creating as we speak!

At the end of this day though I am one happy agent and will gladly do it all over again tomorrow.  I love Northern Michigan and all it has to offer in the winter time.  Snowmobiling, sledding, ice skating, enjoying a hot cup of cocoa and experiencing a white Christmas!  Northern Michigan, especially Gladwin County, is a great place to live, play and yes even WORK!

Sonya; You write really well. Felt like I was there and almost started shivering too!  Guess I won't bother complaining about how cold it was this morning here in California!  It is obvious you love your area and you make it feel like we are there too.

Sonya, you bring back some memories.  We have become such wimps it was in the 50's today and we complained all day; you put that in perspective.

It's a wonderful day when you wake up in the morning.

I love to play in the snow.  I just hate living in it.

Guess that's what I like about Kentucky.  Snow comes but it goes away quickly.

I hope you're moving that car out of the garage while you let it warm up.

You do write well.  I could form the mental pictures easily while reading.

Ebry, I do like playing and living in it...I just wanted to share my experiences of working in it. That can be challenging!  And I definately do open the large garage door before starting the car to let it warm up!

Hi Sonya,

Nice picture and the snow is beautiful.  We don't get much snow where I live, but I remember the snows we had in Kansas.

You are a motivated hard worker. The snow is lovely but I'm glad that you are the one shoveling and not me! Happy Holidays!

Stephanie, I contribute my success to being motivated and hard working but there is a reason why I spend 10-12 days in Florida each February!!!!  Thanks for reading!

Sonya ~ This sounds like the day I had yesterday. It's easy to get a good nights sleep after a day like that.

Hey, Sonya, you trying to get even here or what.  4 inches of snow on my back deck and COLD!

I could have just come up there somewhere to play in it.

You REALLY didn't need to send it down here!

I can relate today.  Portland OR is frozen this week.  But it will most likely be only this week, I couldn't imagine dealing with this day in and day out.

Tony & Libby, I am glad you will only be frozen this week.  Dealing with bad roads, frozen locks, tons of snow and winterizing house and dewinterizing again to inspect them gets to be a pain.  But I do live in a beautiful state that really has no natural disasters to speak of...we don't get hurricanes, earthquakes, forest firest and rarely tornadoes.  It is also beautiful here in the Spring, Summer and Fall so I guess we have to take a little of the bad with the good!  My family and I snowmobile so we take advantage of the snow and play in it!!!!
