4. Be accountable to a workout partner

Carlton:  "Get up Sweetie, it's time to go on our bike ride."

Regina:  "Aaawww, I don't want to get out of bed...."  <groan>

Carlton:  "Come on, let's get our day started, we need some energy before work!"

Regina:  "I'd rather sleep in today...." <yawn>

Carlton:  "You said you wanted to get rid of your cellulite, didn't you?"

Yikes!  I can't believe he went there!!!  Unfortunately it's true... I say it out loud every day when getting dressed... so I can't argue with him.  Ughhh!

He laces up his tennis shoes and goes outside to roll out the bikes.

I guess I better get up and put my sweat shirt on - do I have a choice?

So I'll be riding my bicycle again this morning on our daily schedule...

And on the route of his choice (refer to #3) since he got out there first.

Life Lesson:  Have someone you are accountable to in business.  Accountable for your time spent, your scheduling, your goal-setting, your personal discipline.  Better if it's NOT your spouse, as that can cause rifts in a marriage.  If it's up to us, we'll make excuses, no one will know if we've been faithful to our goals or not, and what harm does it do to slack off just this once?  That's why it's tough to be your own boss.

Find a friend who will stand up to you, a business acquaintance that you can call daily, a mentor or a coach.  Someone who will ask you at the end of each day, "What did you do to make money today?  Which goals did you accomplish?  What are your plans for tomorrow?"  Someone you will be honest with.  Someone who's not afraid to say to you, "You didn't meet your goals today, get back to the office and finish your goals for today."

Stay tuned for Part 5.  Meanwhile, join my NEW group for professionals who work from their home office at http://activerain.com/groups/virtualoffice.

Regina:  Unfortunately, if I tried to get on a bicycle right now... both the tires would either flatten, or explode.  What's a girl to do ??  Other than that... this series of posts is really a good source of ideas.  Thanks for sharing.

Karen, if you haven't been on a bicycle in a while... all the more reason to get back on a bike now!  If you're a little rusty... maybe start with an exercise bike... real slow  ;)

Ken, if the morning conversation sounds familiar, then you're probably married... and you have a built-in workout partner!  ;)

Regina, Funny you should post this. I am comming back from Arizona where I took my bike to ride in the mornings. I started riding in the mornings about 2 months ago and have lost 32 pounds by getting off my butt and riding and rowing. I feel better, smarter, and in control of my life...

A good reminder, Regina...it's always good to have an accountability partner. This happens at my house all the time....my husband will say.."make me get on that treadmill today" so I try and try and try...but, by the end of the day he has talked himself out of it. Sigh

Paul:  that is great, it's amazing how wonderful you feel when you take a positive charge of your life.

Cecily:  you can't make your husband exercise, but you can be a good example by doing it yourself with a positive attitude... who knows, he just may follow your lead!
