Take Back the Weather

I was sitting this morning in my favorite hangout (don't tell my wife), the Union Lake Big Boy at 7726 Cooley Lake Rd, when I noticed that most of the bulbs had been converted to Compact Flourescent Bulbs. I would like to acknowledge this effort to help the environment. Oh, and the service is terrific!

While I was, "relaxing" looking through my free paper, I noted the lack of environmental topics in all area papers. There was one exception. Michael H. Hodges of the Detroit News wrote the only climate related story in today's Take Back the Weatherpaper. Kudos, Michael.  His story was about Margaret Hetherman who out her money where her mouth is, by having five billboards placed around Detroit with the tagline "Take Back the Weather". Read the entire story online. I am writing Michael to thank him for the interesting article and suggest as a follow-up that the remains be recycled.

Update May 16, 2007

My email was forwarded to Margaret. I was informed by Michael that the billboard material is recycled. Another plus.

Cool Gary.  Was at the dentist today chatting about climate change.  He thinks we are in a cycle, coming out of the last ice age!  Unfortunately there are few of us believers, and fewer still doing anything and everything we can to "take back the weather".  Its gonna take a village on this one.

Terry,

I would love to believe that this was just coming out of the last ice age. Better safe than sorry, and if I can save a few bucks... that's icing on the cake!

Gary,

If I thought it might warm things up a bit here in Northern Michigan, I may not have switched over to compact fluorescents!  But on the bright side, I am saving a ton of money on my electric bills. :-)

Stefan,

Forsythia are just starting to flower here, your way shortly!

I think I have been to that very cafe. If I could go and see what you saw today, I would have to smile at more than the desserts on the menu... what a grand gesture from Margaret Hetherman ," a single mother who composes film scores -- pretty much did it by herself..." I read the article, as per your suggestion to discover that

Keith Bedford / Atlas Press

A string of snowless New York winters led Metro Detroit native Margaret Hetherman to worry that her daughter, Lily, will only know snow in fairy tales -- inspiring Hetherman's global-warming billboard campaign. The billboards appear only in the Detroit area. See full image

Gary, I 'd say "only in Michigan"...but possibly more billboards will appear near restaurants across the nation...then folks can say..."It all started in MICHIGAN!"

Bravo! Brava!
