Christian Amanpour was interviewed on NPR and she has been one of my favorite reporters so I was all ears with her story.  She was discussing being a correspondent for CNN and it was interesting that her message for reporters is the same as our real estate business, because if we "report the situation well" for our clients and readers we will be providing an excellent service.  Christian Amanpour reports the world's news and we report the news for our clients via Active Rain;  we have the status reports of the local real estate market as well as information about our towns and cities, schools and hospitals, parks and current events.  Wow, what an opportunity we have to share and its a huge responsibility we should not take lightly.  It is our opportunity to shine!

It is taking the photos of neighborhoods, schools, shops and current activites and reporting analysis of our local real estate market with graphs and interpretation that we have to opportunity to introduce our real estate market to the interested readers and future clients.

Chris Amanpour has the very important position of introducing the world and the events of the world to us; I found her story very inspiring and realize we also have the very important job of introducing our community to those who might be a part of that community in the future.

We will cover the all the important elements of moving to a new home and hope with our help our readers can decide if this decision to move to our city is right one for their family.

Christian Amanpour has a very important job and I know I do too. Telling the stories of Ann Arbor, Chelsea, Dexter and Saline, Michigan is my storyboard; what is yours?

What a very good point you make.  Now, more than ever, it is so important for us to be telling the REAL story and help dispel the feeling of doom and gloom and hopelessness that people are feeling about the market.

I am so tired of the news reporting nothing but doom and gloom, I think they are part of the problem. They make our job that much harder. We just have to keep plugging along.

There are so many stories to tell. Unfortunately, many of the stories I see in the newspaper and on the news are just that, stories.

I enjoy her reporting also. The thing about reporters and news that really gets me now adays is WHY do they all feel we need to know everything? IN such detail? I live in Florida where a little girl has been missing for over 6 months. A few days ago a childs body was found in the woods nearby that had been under water for some time thanks to this years hurricanes & summer storms. Many channels switched to breaking (?) news vs regular programing. As of last night they still do not know for sure. One station was pointing out that "the media" were all surrounding the girls grandparents home waiting for their return. Where is the need, the heart, the concern for people in that? What can we do to change it?

Oh my Pat.  I have not heard about this story.  The little ones...oh I can't take those stories either and I agree can't they have some heart.

I dislike CNN and NPR...I get depressed with those stations because their basis seems to always be "the glass is half empty."

Hi Karen...Christian Amanpour has accepted the challenge of telling us about the real world beyond our borders.  I do not find her depressing.  In addition to the stories she reports I believe she tries to impart ways that we can turn some of our energies into helping others.

Today we  donated again to Doctors Without Borders and to another organization, Women's Commission for Refugee Women and Children.  Both of these organizations do admirable work in many under served areas of the world.

Pretending atrocities are not happening do not make them go away.  Understanding that there are so many people working to make life better for others inspires me to be more optimistic and grateful for the life I live.

We can make a difference whether in another country or in our own communities.

Kate

Hi Karen,  I also agree that Ms. Amanpour 'shoots from the hip'. I appreciate her stories, especially if hope is given to the listeners- that change can be possible.  I listen to NPR but when the mantra of bad news starts I just turn it off!  Be well.

Hi Karen... I love NPR... it is, in my opinion, a well balanced and thinking person's presenation of the news and world events.  That's what I try to be for my clients.  I provide insight and analysis that makes them think and provides a sound basis for their decision making.

Consumers are smart enough today not to accept sound bites and spin stories.  They are also smart enough to know fact from hype and that you can make statistics say a lot of things.  My advice... Be Real.  I get a lot of "thank you's" from clients who thank me for being positive about the opportunities without omitting the downsides related to the current market.  Give people the full picture and they'll respect you for it!
