The house was unassuming from the outside.  A typical Prince William County brick front colonial with a great lot.  Nothing unusual on the main level and since it was a foreclosure the buyer's expectations weren't set to high.  Upper level had 4 nice size bedrooms and other than a little clean up the house was receiving two thumbs up.

Then we ventured to the lower level recreation room.  This was obviously the party room in the house.  At first glance the thought was perhaps vandals had come into the house.  But then we realized that the graffiti was there on purpose.  All of the walls had been covered with words and slogans.  Honestly it was "tastefully" done and when you consider what we all encounter in foreclosure properties it was a pleasant surprise.

The house is on the buyer's short list.  It has multiple commuting options to the Pentagon where he is stationed, good schools and close to shopping. In a way it might be hard to paint over the graffiti but at least it only needs paint and not someone to come in with a mask and protective clothing to take out mold! Another day of interesting things you find when showing foreclosures in Prince William County.

Wow that is impressive.  Hopefully it will scare off other buyers so your buyer wins. Good Luck and thanks for sharing an interesting one.

I actually have a brother that owns a movie production company and he went and got his whole building graffitied! I was shocked when I found out that he did that, but once I went and saw it, I was so impressed as to how well it was done. Believe it or not, I think it is actually pretty nice and very amusing. Besides that though, thats pretty funny about the property being like that... Thanks for the interesting blog!

Hey, nothing a little paint won't cure.  I see the slogan, " Don't be scared, just prepare for the worst."  I wonder if that was done before the foreclosure notices started to come or after?

James-there are professional graffiti artists that make a lot of money with their craft.  This was a surprise but not a shock considering some of what I see when showing foreclosures.

Ken-I did think that particular slogan might have been a bit of an omen of things to come.  A coat of Kilz and it would all be gone.

Cindy, this reminds me of the New York City subway cars back in the 1970's!

Cindy:  WOW.  Great work, but I can see the buyers being skeptical.  However, paint is buyers best friends (and the paint brush and pan).  I wish you the best of luck with your home searching. Keep us posted on the status.  I guess with a foreclosure it could be worse!

Patricia-yes but at least this was done as an "enhancement" to the basement party room and not as vandalism.

Michelle-I've shown this military couple 15 houses in the last two days.  Fortunately we have only encountered one house with mold, versus the usual 5 or 6 I run into.  We have also seen houses owned by direct sellers which has been nice.  Now they are looking at their short list.  I love working with my military buyers as they are usually great about sorting out houses pretty quickly.  This one is on the short list!

Hi Cindy,

Interesting house!  At least it looked interesting.

How did you do the slideshow feature on your blog?  I like the way it works.

Kim-it was actually a nice house and it went under contract the day after I showed it.  The slide show is created with Picasa, a free photo site.  After I upload the pictures to my computer, I then upload them as a public file on the Picasa site.  You can embed the slide show or link to it depending on how you want it to display.  To embed it in AR you have to switch to the HTML view and then copy and paste the code.  Fairly easy but you may want to practice a couple of times in draft mode first.

Oh wow...I'm sure many buyers wouldn't like it but nothing that some paint wouldn't cure...

Sonja-it was a nice house and it went under the contract the day after we saw it.  A can of kilz would cover all the art, though I might have saved on of them.

That's an easy fix!  Primer is absolutely necessary but totally doable.

It is a nice house......

Sandy-it was so nice that someone else grabbed it before my clients.  They found another one without grafiti and we have the home inspection tomorrow.
