i just had to write about this. I find it funny and sad at the same time. I was looking on the MLS to see some competition of my husband/builder, who I represent. These are high end homes in the Rochester, NY area. I stumbled across a new build from another builder, listed at close to $600,000 in a very affluent community. I looked at the photos and laughed out loud. You will never believe what I saw! Looking toward the kitchen there were hardwood floors, stainless appliances, granite etc., and 2 columns graced the entrance way. These 2 round columns announcing the entrance to the kitchen? THEY ARE UPSIDE DOWN! I noticed it right away. I showed the pic to my husband and he was appalled.

My question is this: How many agents would notice? The base, which has notches in it was at the top and the level part was on the floor.

It was glaring and the first thing I noticed. How could the builder not see this? How could anyone else not notice this???

This is a good reason that agents should take a class or two on new construction. (Maybe the builder should too!)

LOL, ok that is not good. Interestingly enough, I think that more women Realtors will notice than men, women usually pay better attention to detail. Good catch.

Hi Keli

You are right on the money; the little details make a big difference.

Good luck and success

Too funny....  You think the high end builder would have noticed that his monkeys did something wrong...

Keli! Oh My gosh!  That is pretty crazy. How could a builder make such a blunder?

Great eye on the details, Keli. Now the hard part - should you call the builder and tell them? Sometimes it is a great jesture to be the "bigger" person and inform a competitor of their errors and sometimes it blows up in your face. I don't know what relationship you have with the other builder, so only you could answer that.

Some of my insurance competitors I would NOT tell them of their errored ways and some I would. Depends on how honest & ethical they run their business if I would be a kind & considerate informer.

Best of luck to your husband too, in this down market!

I love this!  It is too funny!  It is good to really be an expert at what you do!  Hope this builder gets straightened out!

Hey, Keli. I have seen this a few times, so I would have caught this as well. I find it funny that the builder did not notice. Thanks, Jim

Unbelievable!

You would have thought that the builder would have at least tried to spackle the empty space and paint it white so it would be less noticeable. What an idiot!

I totally agree with you about agents getting construction education.  In my area (Charlotte, NC) - a couple of the nationwide builders are offering construction classes.  I attended one by Standard Pacific this past summer and learned a lot about the construction process.  I recommend doing this to any agent.

That is so funny.  I like to think that I would have caught it.

I cannot tell you how many pre-drywall walk-through inspections I've been on and looked at framing and could only say to the builder, "How on earth could a carpenter, framer, use that piece of wood?"

Or, one of my favorites, the beige tiled shower with a white soap dish.  GEEZ.

Yeesh!  Maybe they were looking at the blueprint upside down?  There's a funny joke about that, but I forget the punchline.
