Working smarter not harder.

I have read some blogs here on activerain that all because of the current state of the economy have made statements that they all plan to have a more workman like approach to working their buisness.

They say they are going to commit more time every day to make things happen and not waste as much time every day as they have in the past.

It strikes me funny that most agents wait until things are not going well before a commiment is made to work harder.

Having grew up on a farm I was taught at an early age that there were so many hours in a day and that each day was a gift. Not to be wasted. I to this day am up by 5 am without any alarm clock and am ussually in bed by 9 maybe 10 at the latest. (ok, maybe a bit later on the weekends!).

If your one of those people that seem to just let the day get past and say to yourself " I'll make sure to get it done tommorow" Try this for one week; Get up a 5 am and take care of all the personal stuff in your household weather its doing the dishes or laundry or whatever it is accomplish it every day first thing.

Be in the office by 7 and take care of all the emails and paperwork you can. See how much you can get done by 9. Pack your lunch instaed of going out. Stay in the office with the attitude that you have to get everything you can done today, for today is a gift. Try to fill every moment with something proactive that will lend to your sucess. Don't waste a moment.

If you can do this for one week, you will be amazed how much you will accomplish. You will feel less tired

and truly feel a since of accomplishment.

It will not be easy, but anything worth accomplishing never is...

Its interesting, working smarter not harder is something we all hear a lot of.  I am lucky to be in one of the top producing offices in Manhattan and have agents selling millions and millions of dollars of property every month.  These agents not only are the smartest guys and gals in the room but also work the hardest.  They are in the office all day long, I hear stories of them calling their clients at 3am, crazy work ethics.  I try to emulate what they do and find myself working hard but trying to work smarter than ever before.

I think it is all about balance...I consider myself a hard worker, but I don't see the point running to the office to check emails/hang out and socialize like many of my fellow agents.  I work well at my home office where there are no distractions!  I totally agree that you need to be disciplined all year long, and it surely will pay off!

Bingo...Hang out and socialize??? Thats my point!!! If that is what happens in your office, its hard to get away from it. Stay away from it and you'll be alot better off.

Being social has a time and place, for me it is after work. I make a gillion lists of things to do and I try very hard to finish or shift it to tomorrows list before I socialize. That is just how I was raised, homework first TV or friends second. The reason was that the TV and friends were not going to do the work for me, so you have to prioritize the activities in your life. Good luck!
