In these difficult economic times we are all looking to save a few dollars. Austin has a few free events or opportunities for speading some good cheer. Most do offer music and the opportunity to shop if your so inclined.
The Austin Chord Rangers are having a Carol Fest to be held at the Capitol again this year. They will be singing all the old classic holiday songs in a barbershop quartet style starting at noon on Sunday December 7th! This free event will take place in the Capitol Rotunda.
Classic tv holiday specials will be running through the season. You probably don't want to miss the classic favorites like"How the Grinch Stole Christmas"- playing on ABC tonight at seven and The Christmas Highlights Special on NBC. The Special will feature clips from "Its a Wonderful Life", "Rudolph" and "A Christmas Story". Grab a cup of hot chocolate and snuggle into these classic favorite films.
Travis Heights Art Trail will take place at various locations in south Austin. Please go to www.TravisHeightsArt.com for exact locations. You can walk from shop to shop and look at a number of locally crafted: clothing, ceramics, jewelery, and art. There is sure to be someone on your gift list that would like a unique handmade gift created as a one of a kind piece of art. This will take place on this Saturday and Sunday from 11-5pm. Make sure you dress warmly as we are going to have some record cold temps this week! Maybe you will walk away with a handmade scarf or hat to help you stay toasty!
Blue Santa Breakfast will be today from 8:00am-1:00pm at the Broken spoke. They will be serving hot home made biscuits and gravy as well as breakfast tacos. Operation Blue Santa asks that you bring an unwrapped toy to donate to children that may otherwise not receive any gifts this holiday season. If you can't make it to the breakfast they do have a pledge phone number to call (512-832-7500). You can make a donation, any amount is gratefully accepted. So skip Starbucks this morning and grab a cup of Joe at the office and give that fiver to Operation Blue Santa to help bring a little holiday joy to a child!
