Sometimes living in the valley you just need to get away.  In the summer when it's hot I load all three of my furry babies, Koda, Buddy and Nanook inot the car and we head for Mt. Charleston, the boys love it up there, it's cooler in temperature, it has lots of trees and not to mention wildlife.  One of our favourite things to do is to go for a good long walk, thankfully there are lots of walking trails suitable for even the most inexperienced hiker like me. Our favourite is the Bristlecone Loop.  It is a 6 mile round trip and usually takes 3-4 hours to complete.  The best times to go is from Spring to fall, obviously hiking in the winter isn't a smart move!  Dogs are allowed on the trail as long as they wear a leash 6 feet long or less.

To get there take the US 95 North out of Las Vegas, about 20 miles past the Ann Road exit turn west onto the Nevada highway 156 towards Mt. Charleston's Lee Canyon area. Continue on NV Highway 156 for about 17.5 miles to the Lee canyon ski area parking lot.  The trail head is located at the west end of the parking lot.
