Talk about crazy timing.  Minutes after I decided to start participating in ActiveRain and went ahead and published my first post, I came across Steve Rubel's latest post on the participation ladder and thought I'd share.

In case you aren't already familiar, Steve is a senior VP with Edelman and his blog Micro Persuasion is a great read if you're interested in technology and it's effect on marketing and PR.  (He's also a prolific Twitterer, but more on that later)

In his post, he offers his thoughts on a recent report by Charlene Li of Forrester which examines online audiences and divides them into different stratas which are depicted in the illustration below.

I'm extremely curious to see where the other ActiveRainers fit into the ladder.  Now that I'm back to blogging, I fit into every strata except for the inactives.  How about you?

Thank you for your post.  I am not at all technically savvy, but try to involve myself in everything but inactive as well- always good to be reminded!

I'm in everyone one except the inactive also.  I'll have to take time to read the linked articles.  I'd like to know how you use these groupings.

I'm all but the inactive strata as well.  Thanks for the links, those were interesting reads.

I'm very much not inactive...but that isn't necessarily a good thing.  Marketing technology is something I still don't have a good enough grasp upon.  Another nice Techno-Blog...makes us all better at what we do....We Market!

I think I am a little of all......does that make me well rounded???or just plain confused???

I spectate, join and create! Thanks for the post!

Very interesting concepts outlined here.  It's helpful to begin to explore and understand how market segments breakdown with reference to the ways individuals/consumers choose to interact with the social networking aspects of the Internet.  Much food for thought.  Thanks for bringing this article/report to our attention.

Jason -  I'd check basic cable.  I'm pretty sure he's still doing color on one of those WWE shows ;)

Christy - I think its more "get in where you fit in".  Find out that works for you and use it while keeping an open mind to better possibilities.

I am not Inactive but above that on the ladder the only thing I don't do is... upload video to YouTube.com Interesting graphic. I seldom listen to podcasts though either...

I am learning to look at the rest of the ladder. For a person (me) that is realtively young and grew up along side computers growing up, I still need to learn more about how the interenet has blossomed.

I'd have to say I am in all of them except the "inactive". I fall mostily in the creative section as I have three blogs, 2 websites. My husband says I spend too much time online sometimes. :(

I'm not inactive, but a "podcast" still sounds like something out of a sci-fi horror film...  The aliens decided to take over the planet Earth and sent down a podcast to announce their intentions.....

I've never been a joiner, particularly with real estate related activities such as the board, etc, until I found AR.
