Free Site to list Your Business - Helps with "Local Search" results.
The phone book is almost dead! The majority of US households use the Internet to shop locally for services and for products. Are you listed? If you are an agent rather than a Broker/Owner of an office, then you are not going to be in the paper phone book under Real Estate. But you can be listed on the Internet. Go to SuperPages.com
Be sure and complete all the sections - even if at first glance they don't seem to apply - such as the product category. There are "products" listed for the Real Estate Industry such as Home Evaluations, Buyers Agent and so on.
On the last screen they give you the option of paying for better placement. But the free listing is great.

The phone book is almost dead with 12.4 billion annual references?
The phone book is almost dead with 48% of people using phone book to find local business information versus 21% Search Engines and 13% Internet Yellow Pages? (KN/SRI study, July, 2008)
You are not doing businesses any favors by putting out baloney.
Hi John; I think it depends on your age and what study you read. It's not going away for awhile, but it sure is dwindling. The people who sell the ads now put alot more emphasis on their online version than they used to. Probably also depends on just what you are looking for. And each year, phone book use is probably going to continue to drop.
The online version of superpages will likely help with local search results. It is hard to know which ones work better than others. I periodically do a google search for the market and make sure I am listed in the directories that tend to perform. As always, the search results change regularly.
Now that it has slowed for most of us, it is a good time to for SEO work. Thanks for the post.
Hi Keith; I really like your suggestion of googling for the market you are listed in to see which perform best! That's especially good as you do have to pay for alot of them! When they are free the choice is easy. :)
Interesting information. I agree with you that traditional search methods will be less important in the future than they are now and I agree also that how much you use technology depends on your age group. We have to be willing to look at all options.
