It's a beautiful Sunday morning here in New Braunfels, Texas. The weather is crisp and cool and the sun is shining. I am happy to be alive and I am spending my morning listing to Sunday Morning Jazz and reading all of my favorite people on AR.
When I come across Kathleen Manganello's post about being stood up! Read her post it's obvious that she is frustrated.
I commented on her post and said: "Always think the positive: that this moment has prepared you for the next." After I wrote the words I thought of how true this sentence has meant to me over the years.
After 21 years of "working in the trenches" it can take it's toll. However, I have always been a strong believer that you are in a situation for a very good reason (you may not realize it at the moment) or it may make NO SENSE what so ever....but you are depositing experience in the bank.
Just recently my sister and I had an opportunity to purchase the RE/MAX office that we currently work for. This office has a great vibe, it's relaxing yet energetic and it fosters just a great sharing and learning environment.
When my sister and I were looking at each other and doing some soul searching to see if this is where we wanted to be I had to ask myself was I ready to take the reign's of being the Broker (I've been licensed for over 15 years, had a small office before but nothing compared to this RE/MAX office). In doing so, I had to be very realistic with myself and my team about where our skill sets were at, goals and what aspects did we lack?
This is really hard work when you are pulling yourself apart to determine if you are truly a Leader and what strengths you bring to the group.
It took 9 agonizing days to determine that every moment in the last 21 years has prepared me for this one moment in my life.
I finally came to this realization (after some relating to past painful experiences and eye-opening situations). That yes, I did possess all or most of skills necessary to step up and put my name into that hat! I also was prepared that where I lacked I had an excellent source of talent around me that could fill that weakness (hence, this is where my sister comes in).
So, in looking at Kathleens' day yesterday and how it didn't go that well for her and how she had invested a great deal of her time, trouble and efforts.
I think back on the things that have happened to me in my career and how if you look at them as a good learning experience (make sure you deposit it into the bank of experience) that this too shall pass and when you see this coming around the corner again....you, will be prepared!
I hope you have a fruitful and splendid day!
Yes, this is my photo, I have permission.
