A memorial tribute to the men and women who perished in the attack on Pearl Harbor.

When I visited Hawaii several years ago, I visited "The Punchbowl National Cemetary there.

The Punchbowl is located in the Pu'owaina Crater and buitlt in 1948.  The crater was known as the "Hill of Sacrifice" in ancient times.  It was dedicated on Sep 2, 1949 and casualties from the attack on Pearl Harbor December 7, 1941 were among the first to be buried there.  Overall, there are over 33,000 men and women buried there.

Hal, good post.  When I was out there I visited the Arizona Memorial and the Cemetery, it was a very moving experience.  Nice tribute.

Hal - Great pictures and remembrance.  I was fortunate enough to have been able to take my father to Hawaii years ago.  He served in WWII and was stationed in Hawaii in January (following the attack on Pearl Harbor).  It was an emotional trip for all of us.

Hal, this is such a milestone in History yet the date seems to come and go without a great deal of hoopla! What a shame. I have an uncle that was a Sea-Bee (sp?) that was stationed at Pearl Harbor at that very time. He shared some really heart wrenching stories with me about it. He ended up with a Purple Heart and other medals and Thank God still came home in one piece.

Thank you for this tribute. You're a great guy!
