On this day in 1980, John Lennon's life was tragically cut short as he was killed upon returning home from his studio in New York City. It was a moment that changed Rock and Roll history.
The musician, peace activist, husband and father was mourned worldwide that day and still is every December 8th with candlelight vigils across the globe.
Today, please take a moment out of your day to listen to the message John Lennon fought so hard to get across to the world.
Give Peace A Chance
This past summer I went to visit my old stomping grounds in Manhattan with my dear friend Christy who had never been north of DC. We immediately gravitated to Strawberry Fields in Central Park to spend a few minutes. It turned out to be a few hours as an impromptu band had set up and played Beatles tunes. People just continued to stop and listen, and before you knew it, there was a large group just singing Beatles songs and sharing a moment of peace and music in the middle of the world's craziest of cities. John Lennon himself probably would have been proud to see people of all ages, colors and backgrounds gathering as one with a shared goal:
And the world will be as one...

It's bizarre to me that 28 years have passed. It seems like only yesterday this tragedy occurred. The message is still clear, although not much progress has been made over these many years. Beatles music transcends age, ethnicity and social classes. John's message will live on. Hopefully, in our life time, we'll get to witness, And the world will be as one...
Thanks for the reminder Craig. John Lennon certainly impacted the music world with his message and songs. He will be remembered for time to come. His death was both tragic and senseless. The song you posted is my favorite.
Cecily - Like my peers before me who knew exactly when and where they were when JFK was shot, I'll never forget my surroundings when I heard the news of Lennon's murder. It was truly a sad day.
Scott - Well said. Lennon's message is clear and it will live on forever. And like you put it, "Hopefully, in our life time, we'll get to witness, And the world will be as one..."
Jon - The influence the Beatles, and Lennon in particular, had on music will last as long as there is music. John Lennon will be remembered forever as a man of peace.
Hi Craig, John was my favorite Beatle, and it seems like it was just yesterday when he was taken from us. One of those moments in history where you remember where you were when you heard the news.
Carole - We're on the same wavelength!.......Please check out Carole's blog tribute to John Lennon....She did a wonderful job memorializing the man we miss so much.....
