Besides the 25 lb FRUITCAKE, somebody, somewhere has sent you a gift that you would probably NEVER EVER USE if you lived to be 150!

So let's HEAR IT ACTIVE RAIN.... WHAT IS YOUR WORST GIFT EVER? (Or maybe you gave the worst gift ever to someone else?? Hmm...is it ok to RE-GIFT THE WORST GIFT EVER??) What a dirty trick that would be...

HOE HOE HOE!

I once got a garden hoe, I guess as a reminder that I should plant a garden in the spring. Hmph! (Never happened... uhh the garden that is).

Kevin, I am going to feature this in our group b/c I know the answers will be worth reading, for me I have never gotten a bad gift anytime.  I was taught at a young age to be Thankful.

When I got a package of underwear for Christmas, I was happy b/c I didn't have to share with my sister ( any more- I wasn't a fan of seconds).  I was of course sad for all the other little children who didn't get underwear for the Holidays.    Seriously just kidding- with my warped mind I can turn the worst gift into a blessing.  It would be more fun for me to hijack this post after there were a few tear-jerk tales but I am going to take a chance and jump in towards the start and say let the stories begin!!  cheryl (I don't really wear....)willis

The worst ever for me had to be a purple coat. It was ordered by my wifes mother who had trouble seeing the picture in the catalog.  The coat really didn't look purple in the book.  See passed about a year ago and I didn't have the heart to return it.

Hey Jack, I could wear the purple coat, and go hoe around in my garden (in my new underwear).

Oh yea, I can't forget the box of stale chocolates I got from one of my previous bosses.

Not much of a High-Jack but JACKseemed pretty upset about the coat to comment 5 times!!  Purple is the color of Royalty, maybe MIL was dreaming good thoughts for her daughter.  I could see Kevin wearing a purple coat don't have any images other than that-- sorry cw

Kevin, you would think that the "worst gift ever" would stick out in you mind like a sore thumb, but I can't really think of anything.  Maybe the polished petrified-wood mantle clock will have to do until I remember something better. (I am assuming clothes don't count?)

I can't really think of an especially bad gift. I know most people joke about getting a fruit cake. I love the stuff. So a friend sent me one as a joke as I am the only person she knows who gets excited over getting a fruit cake. I like purple!

Huh, I will have to mull that over. I was pretty disappointed as a kid, when I wanted toy civil war soldiers and my folks bought me WWII soldiers.

We must be a "glass half full" crowd here, Kevin, because I can't think of one either!  I do remember one year REALLY REALLY wanting a hot pink stuffed animal, that was shaped like a snake.  (I know... I was an unusual child before becoming an unusual adult), but it was to round out a collection of various animals and it was the ONLY thing I wanted.  There was no box under the tree that even resembled a container that could hold such a gift, and I was not a happy camper. It wasn't expensive, available at the 5 and dime.  Imagine my surprise, when I discovered my talented mother had wound that pink snake so tight into a box it practically sprung out at me when I opened it!

I can think of a few:

  • I'm a flannel/cotton pajama-wearing person, and can't stand slinky, satiny, chiffony sleepwear that aren't comfortable. In spite of my professed love of flannel and cotton, I receive this slinky baby doll nightie that looks straight out of Frederick's of hollywood.
  • I have developed allergies and an aversion to perfume. So what do I get? Perfume!
  • I don't like big purses (the bigger they are, the more stuff one tends to put in it). >SIGH< I receive a tote bag sized purse that's big enough to hold one week's groceries!

Bottom line: people should really know a recipient' likes and dislikes. Otherwise, your gift will be....re-gifted.

Pacita, you have a rather impressive list. Might I suggest that you start leaving little hints... like catalogs open and items circled? Or big pictures of what you want taped to the bathroom mirror. LOL

Kevin, That is one that I would have to mull over too. I once got a real ugly sweater that was not my color and looked absolutely hideous...

Cheryl M, I'll trade my hoe for your pink snake.

Steve, I guess your parents didn't know their wars.

Charles, does a "petrified clock" move... or is it petrified?

Cheryl W, ... so if I bought you a ticket to see Sumo Wrestling in beautiful downtown Detroit...

Kevin, excellent question, does dead batteries count?

6:52am • #17

Michael... don't get me started on the ugly sweater thing...LOL

Charles, sounds like a re-gift.  I think Nutsy runs on those.

I remember getting a flannel shirt one year, it was spotted and looked like it came off of a cow, sort of like a box that the Gateway computers used to come in. I wonder what the kids thought of me when I use to wear it to school?  lol  We were po' folk anyway, and it was common to wear the same shirt and pants several days in a row to school. I'm glad I can laugh about it now though!  hee hee

I stopped back by to see if there was any works of wisdom I could offer.  Looks like you are getting all the good stuff covered.  I will have to check my calendar for dates, when were you wanting to buy tickets?  cheryl (is all wrestling real?)willis

Jim, I'll bet that was "MOOTIFUL" !

Cheryl, Sumo wrestling is real... those guys could crush us like grapes if they sat on us.

Cheryl, I'll bet we could get in free if I told them we were willing to let them sit on us (added attraction). But, alas, I checked and I also am busy that night. :))

Well, my Bday is 3 days before Christmas so I frequently get one gift passed off as a "combo" gift.  I.e. I get ripped off.  BUT, I gotta say, prolly the worst gift, was none at all.  It is the thought that counts.

But right behind that, was the used Christmas decoration that smelled of moth balls.

The same cologne every year. I now have 8 bottles of it. I'll never use it all. Maybe I'll re-gift!

If I hunted down all the gifts that I haven't used, I could probably hav e enough to "re-gift" everybody!

Kevin, my worst was a sweater. It was so bad, I will have to write a blog about it.
