If you have been looking for a way to quickly fill your social network with like-minded individuals, look no further than twitter. With small 140 character updates, you can grow your social network like never before possible.

Here are some neat applications and websites to help you get started using twitter to its full potential.

Using tools such as www.twellow.com you can search for people with similar interests and start following them. While you are there, be sure to setup your twellow account and add links to your other social networks.

If you don't want to use your cell phone to send and receive tweets, you can use a desktop application such as twhirl or tweetdeck.

You can use an application like www.friendorfollow.com to make sure that you are following those that are following you and see who is not following you back.

Using www.tweetlater.com you can automate your twitter account to auto-follow new followers and send a follow-up DM (direct message) to thank them for following you. If you are careful (DON'T use follow-ups for self-promotion or even worse to try to sell anything) you can use follow-ups to invite others to connect to you on other social networks.

As a twitter beginner, you may have many questions. Here are a few articles to help you get started in the right direction.

In the article 10 Easy Steps for Twitter Beginners Darren Rowse offers a simple and informative answer to the question, "What do I do with twitter?"

Cheryl:  I am sorry, but I just don't see the sense in the whole Twitter thing... at least for me.  Thirty years ago... perhaps.  But I just don't get it.  Take care...

Cheryl, I haven't quite figured it out, but I'm open to keep trying. If Twitter helps me achieve my goals, I neither have to agree nor understand.  Thanks for the info.

I have read so much about Twitter, is it as time consuming as it sounds... :) (but maybe worth it? )

Thanks for the helpful advice.  I joined twitter, but don't really know at this point how to use it.  I am following some people, and others are following me, but that's about a far as it goes.

Cheryl - Thanks for the info.  It seems like there is always something different for us to have to master just to get our virtual tours services noticed.  Does it ever end?  Thanks again.

The 10 step is something I printed out...but I forget to sign on to Twitter everyday.  I find it a tad less friendly than say Facebook or Active Rain...which I know are different forums.  Maybe I'm just to chatty for 140 characters.  On Facebook, I feel like I know the people who "add me" and on Twitter it seems more random.  I'll give it another try though.

Cheryl

While writing a post today on AR i twittered it and mentioned Realtor.com. Within two hours I had a response in email form from Realtor.com and then Zillow. Twitter is amazing.  While not sure how much business i am gaining, the links posted to information I need are abundant, and links I've posted get good followings. I would NOT spam fellow twitter-ers but handing out good, useful, information seems very appreciated.

I'm glad to know about the tweetlater app. I can go for days without tweeting, and want to be more regular at it.
