The Christmas season got off to a wonderful start this past weekend when the White Oak River Dance Company, (Swansboro Dance Studio in Swansboro N C) presented The Nutcracker.  "The Nutcracker" - Swansboro NC

Perhaps you are not familiar with the Ballet.  It is based on the story "The Nutcracker and the King of the Mice" by E.T.A. Hoffman.  The story is about a young, German girl who dreams about a Nutcracker Prince and a Mouse King with seven heads.

The talented White Oak River Dance Company dancers, beautiful costumes, enchanting sets  and  magical, festive music provided an enchanting evening of entertainment.

I want to thank all the dancers, choreographers, set designers, costume designers, stage hands, parents and anyone who had a part in the Ballet for all they did to bring this incredible production to Swansboro, North Carolina.

Gosh Cynthia, I have set through so many local Nutcrackers I can't even count, with two daughters 10 years apart. I loved every minute of it. I told someone I think I need a Nutcracker fix this holiday season.

No matter the town, The Nutcracker seems to have the same level of hard work and dedication. You are right- there are many many hands involved and many more that never get recognition.... It is a work of genuine love.

You have just put a flood of memories back into my mind as my daughter danced yearly in this production up to age 14. Now I'll go and quietly cry- she is growing up too fast!!

I just love the Nutcracker!  It's definitely a holiday tradition!  You just have to love something that has become such a part of the Christmas season - year after year.  Hope all is well on your end!

Cynthia,  Last week you told me your daughter was to be in this production - I purposely came back to see her.  I read the post three times and couldn't see where you pointed out which one was "her daughtership"  Karen

Cynthia:  Sounds like a whole lot of fun?  The production set looks beautiful.  Does the White Oak River Dance Company perform the Nutcracker every year?

Cynthia- Great pictures.  And I see from the comments one of these is your daughter.  I have some very old video of my girl in a production.  You'll treasure this forever.

Hi Susie,
Thank you --getting a good picture during the performace was a challenge.

Craig,
Yes it was, they went all out to make it very special.

Missy,
Too bad you could not have been with us last week-end.  But you know I think everybody needs a Nutcracker fix at Christmas.

Hello Michelle,
You are so correct--it is a labor of love!  Did you have your "good cry"?

Cynthia, It's been quite a while since I attended the Nutcracker.  I used to play the album every season till I wore it out!. These are such sweet photos. Is your daughter a ballerina?

Hi Carol S.,
Sorry to take so long to get back here to the comments.  Yes, tradition means a lot and I think it is really important for children to experience.  Thank you and Merry Christmas!

Carole P.
You sure would have and I would have loved for you to have seen these young dancers dancing their hearts out.  Merry Christmas!

Hello Jo,
I sure do, an angel!  Thank you and Merry Christmas.
