If your home is on the market during the holidays please make sure that you do not have your expensive gifts under the tree. If an agent has an open house or even when the house is being shown it may not be easy to keep an eye on the prospective buyers who come in.

It might be a good idea to just wrap empty boxes and keep under the tree and hide the gifts, out of sight.

Do not take your home off the market because the home shows well when it is decorated tastefully and there is less competition. The buyers who look at this time are serious buyers.

Thank you, this is good advice.  We always remind our sellers to put away their valuables and medications, but we don't usually think of wrapped gifts in that way.

Good tip to have sellers wrap empty boxes with the "real" gifts not under the tree yet. Hope you had a good year in 2008 and even a more successful 2009! - Carla

Gita, great advice it just points out how one needs to "store" things when their home is on the market. That seems extreme but placing items at a friends' home, with family, or in a storage facility makes better sense than loosing money by someones thievery.

WE cover this in all my staged homes - built ins are to be examined, so closets, drawers etc are open for snooping.
