How Far Is Too Far?...

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams
Lately I have been getting some flack from friends and family for referring buyers to other agents when the buyer is interested in property in an area outside of the town I live in.  I have received more than one call from someone relocating from out of state to a town near where I live, but not close enough that I have intimate knowledge of that area.  The most recent was a buyer looking to buy in Canon City, which is about 60 miles away and is very rural.  I would be willing to help this person if I knew the area better, but I have only been there a few times and wouldn't be a good source for local information.  Any thoughts?

I say kudos to you for recognizing your limitations as far as market knowledge goes.  Instead of going out on a limb and taking risks with a buyer, you're helping them to get better service.  I'd just explain to the referrer when you're thanking them that the area of interest is outside of your intimate knowledge base but that you're delighted to help be a matchmaker with buyers and agents.  It shows you are a true professional, I'd say!

Thanks Leigh.  It's nice to have a reality check and know that I am on the right track!
