Lancaster PA Real Estate - Selling Your Home During The Holidays

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Realty

The real estate market usually slows down at the end of the year, but there are still benefits to selling a home during the holidays. Since fewer homes come on the market during November and December, a property will have more potential for exposure during its important first thirty days on the market, as there is less competition in the market. In addition, there may be an influx of potential buyers, as many job transferees may need to get settled by the start of the new year.

To help those hoping to sell their homes during the holiday season, here are some tips:

holiday sales

Make Your Home Warm and Welcoming: December and January can be very cold, so make sure the home is warm and cozy.  If the house has a fireplace, light it to bring the room to life and enhance the ambience.  Bake holiday cookies and treats to make your home smell great.

Decorate the Interior:  Don't overwhelm potential home buyers with dramatic holiday decorations; be conservative with holiday decorations.  You want potential buyers to see the home, not your holiday spriit.

Increase Curb Appeal: First impressions are critical. Remove any leaves and ensure the path to the steps is free from ice or snow. Put up a few exterior holiday lights and decorations but keep it understated. Keep lights tasteful and consistent with the rest of the neighborhood. A holiday welcome mat outside the front door is a nice touch.

But most of all, don't let the stress of selling your house interfere with your holiday celebrations and family get togethers.
