If you needed some ideas for your next $25 million dollar landscape makeover, you may want to check out what the Mirage has done. Back in September I posted about the makeover, and have a picture there of the drained lagoon and the story and video of the new effects and music in the works. Yesterday was a day of unveilings, first with the new Las Vegas Sign Parking Lot opening. Then last night, December 8th, the new and improved volcano opened, here's one of the several videos available from YouTube.
I'm not sure if the fireworks will be a regular ending, although next door it's done for The Sirens of TI Pirate Battle at Treasure Island. The Mirage volcano didn't have them at the later show, but the wind was whipping up by then.
For an idea of what the new lagoon looks like, and a better idea of the colors and 'lava sprays', my ace photographer grabbed some stills. They capture the transformation of the tranquil lagoon with waterfalls and dolphins into an exploding inferno where you can feel the heat from the blasts. To see the pictures

Steve: Actually Robbie's Mirage volcano jump is on New Year's Eve for FOX, and one of possibly 3 stunts televised that day.
Another Robbie, Australian Robbie Madison is supposed to be set to do a 96' jump straight up and onto Paris Las Vegas' Arc de Triomphe that stands 120' high, then do a 50' free fall from there to a ramp. That's part of the Red Bull: New Year No Limits on ESPN. They also say they're planning a second stunt for that one, although they haven't released the location. Rhys Millen is supposed to attempt to be the first to complete a back-flip in an off-road car / truck.
WOW! They did juice it up. Now I have to check it out. GREAT pictures the color of the flame doesn't show in the video. That one from the Venetian to Mirage TI is a cool shot too.
Bob: More powerful effects than before, you'll have to check it out. Thanks on the pics, you should see the originals. The player degrades them just a bit, more noticeable on older CRT monitors & video cards. They lose some of the black contrast and appear a little faded. That Venetian shot is a pano, and that original alone is over 14 MB, so the player is a good compromise.

Hi Roberta... Didn't I read somewhere that Robbie Knievel is going to jump the new new volcano this weekend?
