That's right at CHOC, Children's Hospital of Orange kids with cancer and other ailments are helping others by becoming budding artists and creating the 2008 collection Kids' Collection of Holiday Cards.
The artists are what make these cards so special. Each card has been created by children who are, or have been patients at CHOC. Earlier this year the cards were created by children from age 6 to 18 and then submitted for review. I'm pleased to announce we have one of those little creative little artists in our own family, her name is Katie, now age 7 and she's my granddaughter.
Katie's card is entitled Snowman And Trees. (If you look closely at Katie's card you will see it was intended to be a snow girl, she's actually wearing a braclet.)
The inside message reads:May the Warmth of the Holidays fill your Heart.
Description: This design is sold in packages of twenty for $20.00. Card size is 5"X 7". The package includes 20 gold CHOC benefit seals and 21 white envelopes. Check them out here and to view detail for the name and photo of the card's young artist.
By supporting these words of greeting, you will be giving children the gift of healing to others. All proceeds from the sale of these cards and gift tags support Children's Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) and CHOC at Mission.
In addition to the holiday collection you can find kids created birthday cards and "heart" cards among others.
The photo at the left is one I took several months ago the last time Katie was hospitalized. She's sitting bottom left. You can see how those chemo faces are filled out, yet though everything they continue to smile. This was a special day in the playroom, they had visit by the girls from the Angel's ball team in Anaheim.
We are one of those fortunate families, Katie was diagnosed at age 5 with Leukemia. She is now doing very well, she's in the first grade. She had her routine chemo today as an outpatient. I personally want to say thank you to all who've remembered Katie in their prayers! We continue to pray for many others still hospitalized.
CHOC Hospital is one amazing place, they are are dedicated to working with the entire family by enriching existing services as well as developing programs to benefit the families of Orange County.
In 2005 alone, over 200,000 children came through the doors for inpatient, outpatient and emergency room visits - regardless of their family's ability to pay.
