Just last week, we had 5 local people who were involved in a mortgage fraud scheme plead guilty to various charges that could get some up to 30 yrs in prison.  All took some sort of plea bargain reduced to a single charge each.  We get to find out next year what kind of time they will get.

The fraud involved a Builder, a Banker, a Loan Officer, and 2 Realtors.  In their scheme, the builder would get construction loans and straw borrowers to sing for the loans.  The builder paid kickbacks to all parties involved in order to get the buyers and loans for homes that were never built.  The builder pocket draw funds and left the homes unfinished. Eventually, the bank took back uncompleted homes and reported it to the FBI.

The Banker involved had left the bank and started with another construction lender prior to her arrest, she had even called on our office before anyone knew what she had done.  I am so glad we never sent any business to her new company.

I hear rumors about other fraudulent activities being investigated right here in Idaho.  I am sure we will hear more stories like this as they work themselves out.

Roger, Criminals aren't as bright as they would like to think. They believe it's worth the risk of a life-time or important years behind bars to make money. the sad thing is that they help propagate the belief that REALTORS are untrustworthy when it's only a small number who are and the rest of us work hard to deleive the ethics in the oath we took as REALTORS.

It is amazing the stupidity of people and how they think they can get away with it. A good example is the govenor of Illinois

Stupidity and Greed seem to be linked hand in hand.

A very bad combination if you ask me.

And I thought mortgage fraud was a thing of the past. Silly me.  Times shouldn't get hard enough to risk your livelihood and the chance to EVER make a decent living again.

A word of advice to everyone in this business......before you hire them or do business with them....Google search them...this is becoming more and more common and until conviction, licenses are not revoked.....

Roger, Why do people cut corners like this. I guess fraud is a lot different than cutting corners but why would you do this. I'm sure these people made plenty of money without fraud...

Like you I can't believe that anyone could do things like this and risk their lively hood and the loss of family and friends just to make a few dollars. But I'm glad they are out of the business permanently so the honest people can continue to show why we do what we do. (16-8)
