A Classic American Barber Shop is a fine example of keeping the American Dream alive and strong! With businesses closing down everyday and more going bankrupt or downsizing - it is almost unheard of that someone would START a new one! It is so refreshing to know there are people out there who refuse to give up and still shoot for their dreams!
A Classic American Barber Shop is located at 7002 E Broadway Suite D - 520.722.2424
Owner/Operator/Barber, Jim Bonnie, turned in his gun belt in for a pair of scissors after 25 years working in law enforcement! Why? Jim says that being a barber is what he always dreamed of doing. And that dream was more important than staying with a secure job, steady paycheck and benefits! Jim also mentioned that finding the building for his barber shop gave him a stronger drive to pursue his dream!
What's so special about the building? Turns out it has always been a barbershop! It dates back to the early ‘60s and still has the original mirrors! CLASSIC!
The specialty of A Classic American Barbershop is your basic old fashioned haircut for men and boys of all ages and hot shaves! (Can ya feel that warm towel on your face??! Nice!) And prices are reasonable - anywhere between $8 - $15 for a shave and trim!
In the good ‘ole days, men went to barbershops for a haircut and to enjoy great conversations with the barber and fellow clients. As men's style changed, barbershops almost disappeared. Interesting conversation and personal relationships seem to have been replaced by stylists who clip away at lightning speed to move from one client to the next as quickly as possible.
According to an article I read in a Tucson newspaper, after more than thirty years of decline, barbering and barbershops are making a comeback! In fact, barbershops are on the rise and growing faster than beauty salons. Today's men have specific requirements regarding personal grooming and are no longer interested in discount chains and unisex salons. They instead demand the personal atmosphere of a barbershop, as well as the feeling of camaraderie found among the patrons.
While I was in the shop, business wasn't waiting room only - but it was good conversation, nice people who came in and shook your hand when they said hello and there was just good old fashioned service waiting for them!
Yay to Jim Bonnie for going for your dream and keeping the American Spirit alive! If you are on Tucson's eastside, and need a quick trim, cut or shave - stop by A Classic American Barbershop and tell Jim I said hello!
