There was a time where almost as many people in Florida had a Real Estate License as had Driver's Licenses. Everyone knew someone who was a "REAL-A-TOR". REALTORS® are members of the National Association of Real Estate Professionals. They are licensed by the State of Florida. They are schooled in Florida Law with regard to the exchange of property, protect the public in the sale or transfer of Real Estate and are expected to have mastered a minimal degree of competency.
Finding the "Right" Realtor, is much like finding the best fitting pair of shoes.
Sure, there are many colors, styles, and sizes available. And most certainly one size does not fit all.
Shoes are a very personal choice.
The "Fit" must be right.
Choosing a home is the single largest purchase a person can make, therefore it would make sense that the first step is find a Real Estate Professional you feel comfortable with.
DON'T BE AFRAID TO ASK QUESTIONS
Many consumers are afraid to ask questions. Your Realtor should be an experienced person, who has in depth knowledge of an area, inventory, and ammenties. You should feel that this person is one you can trust.
Too often, there was pressure applied by Realtors upon consumers.
THE CREAM WILL RISE TO THE SURFACE
The receeding market sales will have one possitive effect
The Cream of Agents wil rise to the top.
No longer driven by making a "quick buck" selling Real Estate, Sales Associates and Brokers who possess longevity in this occupation, will indeed be the best and the brightest.
For consumers this is great news!
The local Association of Realtors reported in June 2008 that their membership had decreased by an astonishing 30% over the previous year. The primary reason for this decline in membership was motive.
Many "Realtors" jumped on board when the housing market boom was underway. Classroom were packed with would be Sales Associates looking to make it big in Real Estate. Like any fad, the lustre soon wore thin when they realized they had to become more than order takers at a fast food franchise of homes sales.
As as with any fad, when the luster has faded they often move on to other endeavours.
REAL ESTATE IS NOT A PART TIME OCCUPATION
Would you use a part time eye doctor? Or Dentist? What if....
The professional you went to see was telling you about their "other job"?
Choosing the "Right Realtor" should be a hiring process. There needs to be a comfort zone and a proper fit between you the consumer and the professional you choose to work with. Interview many choose only one.

Allison~I can't agree with you more! While there are many options when selecting an agent, clients should work with those who put their interests first! And no, I wouldn't even consider a part-time doctor or dentist...or Realtor, for that matter :)
