I believe that for Realtors, the most important aspect of their real estate business is the relationships Realtors have developed over the years. All the Internet Lead Generation, Farming, Open Houses, walking neighborhoods are a great way to add people to your database. Once they're in your database, it's really up to the Realtor to establish that relationship. Relationships are the real reason that keeps buyers and sellers calling.

The question is, can Internet Social Networking really help establish that relationship? I was thinking about using my Facebook page and advertising it on all my mailings and emails to my database. I don't mail or market myself to anyone I haven't met, so I feel comfortable on not getting any stalkers. The objective is to have people go to my Facebook page to see who I am, make comments and generally interact with me... establishing a relationship. What are your thoughts? Please let me know your thought!

I'd be interested in hearing what others have to say on this subject too.  I use my facebook with past clients and established relationships, but haven't added leads yet.

I would be interested to know too.

I don't know I am new to facebook myself and a couple years ago I tried to work the MySpace thing and had no real success with that.....

I guess I don't see the advantage and facebook seems to be more about connecting with past friends but I would love to know if anyone has worked MySpace or Facebook successfully....

I avoided MySpace. That seems to be for younger kids trying to "hook up"... not for me.

Facebook seems to be far more adult. I started off with family and friends. I quickly saw that its a great tool to re-establish relationships with past customers. So much that, one past client contacted me on Facebook from England. She ended up buying a condo in Ann Arbor for cash a couple of weeks later.

Never thought about adding Leads, however. Sure would give those Internet Leads a good look at who you are personally, wouldn't it?

I agree, MySpace is a bit trendy and teeny and doesn't seem like a great place to do any business.

James, I am new to facebook, so I don't know how well it works.  I would be interested to see what your experience is with advertising it.  I do think that is a better place than myspace to network professionally.

I am not really qualified to leave a comment since I do not have a facebook page, but I am going to leave one anyway!  Hoenstly, I don't think I would bother.  THe majority of people who get your print advertising probably do not have an account.  But I could be way off base here.

My Facebook is putting me back in personal touch with my past clients and reconnecting the relationship. Alot of the talk is unrelated to real estate. But, eventually, they ask "so how are you doing?"  My response.... "very well, thank you. Why do you ask?" See where this is going? It's getting them talking with me, then I can use all the scripts and dialogues I've mastered over the years.

There is a mode you can set your Facebook home page so everybody can see it. I'm pretty sure they don't have to a member of Facebook to view it. Best thing I can suggest is to go my Facebook page and check it out. Tell me what you think, perhaps add me to your friends list and watch what happens. We'll all learn together!

James - I added you as a friend, but it doesn't look like your page is public - I couldn't see your whole page without being your friend.

Well, Hope, add me as your friend.

The real question is, "how do people see my my facebook page?"  Anybody out there know the correct answer?? Please let us know!!

I never thought of marketing my facebook page on my mailings, what a great idea! Not only is ifacebook a great way to stay in touch with clients, it's FREE. I shall have to dig a little deeper on this idea in my marketing. Thank you!

Hope- I added you as a friend so you will be able to see where this whole thing is going. I'm still learning too. If you give people you haven't met permission to see your page, then there you go. If people are interested in seeing who you, they'll sign up. I think this will only work if you have past relationships with them. I only mail to those people anyways.

I wouldn't think I would want to direct them to Facebook instead of directing them to my web site.  Facebook is much less professional, especially if you have your random friends and family on there too.

I am active on Facebook and I wouldn't put it on my marketing pieces.  It is an interesting mix of family, personal and business relationships so I am always on the look out for goofy stuff my kids might have posted on my wall, and deleting certain things from my wall I wouldn't want clients to necessarily see.  For me, Facebook is too PERSONAL, I wouldn't want just anybody on there.  Instead, I promote my outside blog to the world, and invite specific people into my Facebook world.

I only let people I know become friends with me on FB... past clients, businesses, current clients. They are people I have met. It does add a personal element to my 33 Touch Program and that is what I was try to accomplish.... the personal connection. Also, since all my marketing is permission based, I don't worry so much about what people see on my FB because I control it very carefully.  In fact, I want them to see me personally, not just another Realtor, because its the relationship I'm trying to develop.
