Elmendorph Red Hook

It is hard to believe this beautifully restored 1750 building was in a state of disrepair until it was rescued by a group called "The Friend of the Elmendorph " in the 1970's.

Today you can view many old photographs and artifacts of the area here.  This building is also put to good use by various groups in the community.

The latest usage will be for a winter market.  So what makes up this winter market?

It will be a first of it's kind in the village of Red Hook and is more likely the type of market you would find in the spring.  Here are the types of products you could expect to see.

  • Fruits
  • Cider
  • Meat and diary
  • woolen Fiber
  • Hot Soup and prepared food
  • Jam and Jellies
  • Fresh Breads

PARTICIPANTS

I am sure you are very familiar with the list of participants and have purchased their products during the spring and summer.

  • Migliorelli's Farm
  • Hearty Roots
  • Northwind
  • Hudson Valley Fresh
  • Awesome Farm
  • Montgomery Place Orchard
  • Tivoli Bakery
  • Gigi Market

This market will be held once a month on the second Saturday.  The success of this market will depend on participation ,so please turn out to support our local farmers and merchants.

C - That is so sweet of you, maybe some of our second home owners from NYC will see your blog and stop by.  Let me know when you are coming, so we can do lunch.

Chris I am glad about the restoration, it is such an attractive structure.

Hi Jennifer,

You have so many interesting places in your neck-of-the-woods. So now a question, what does one do with a purchase of woolen fiber?

Jennifer- I have been engaged in classes and talking about classes. I look at your wonderful photograph of that restored house and think, "I should take classes from her." Another great post!

What a great idea Jennifer.  Like an indoor farmer's market.  Hope the idea spreads to other locations.

Sarah - I know just what you mean.

George - It sure was in bad shape.   I so love to see restoration projects.  Most buildings today lack the details of the past.

Thesa - I just hope it will be well supported so it will become a yearly event.

Lynda - That is a question I am hoping to get the answer to.  I don't sew, weave, knit etc.

Eloise Glad to hear you have been busy.  Yes this building is a nice addition to the village.
