The On-Line Book To Show Face and Make Friends

The clue about this post was definitely in the Title. (haha) If you guessed FACEBOOK, you guessed right. So why is FACEBOOK the place to have your face and make friends? I know why I'm there...because my oldest son is a college student, and he's there. It just another way for us to connect.

His pictures, friends, updates and more are there for Dad's viewing pleasure. (shhh...don't tell him) You see, I am 3-4 hours away from Cal Poly, so I can't just hop in the car and "be right there!" If students from colleges all over the Country are on FACEBOOK, then I assume most parents like myself are as well. I know they must miss their kids too.

Question here is, should you be there? If so, why? If not, why not?

Tomorrow, (I am totally stoked), we're having the one and only Jay Thompson discuss FACEBOOK and his thoughts on the ins and outs of why he's there, and what works for him. With over 500 friends there, Jay is the perfect guest to have on RAIN Radio for this topic. Thanks Jay.

Sounds good to me. I've been on Facebook awhile but I would like to see business from there. Every bit of knowledge helps!

Then I assume you'll be joining us Lizette. Very cool, it will be a lot of fun. :-)

Been on face book for a few months now and I have gotten drunk, had pillow fights, snow ball fights and a lot of other silly stuff. If this is going to show me how to get to the meat of Facebook, I am all ears.

Brad I got my 1st listing from Facebook last month when a woman I went to high school with happened to notice my profile and quickly realized I was a Realtor because of all the Real Estate postings she saw on my site. It just so happens her dad was thinking about selling his home. Well I asked her for his contact info and landed myself a listing. It would never have happened without being there.

Hi Brad! Great idea to get the chatter going about Facebook with Jay. My sons who are in college are also on Facebook (MySpace just became to 'young' for them--their word!) and it is fun to see them having a good time online with their friends too!

I have my own thoughts about Facebook and look forward to seeing if Jay and I agree; we should--his last name is my maiden name AND one of my first cousins is Jay Thompson! I actually thought that my cousin may have changed careers when I saw his name here on AR a few months back. ;-)

I have been on Facebook for just a couple months. I like it to find old friends from high school!

I've only been actively using Facebook for a short while and I can see how Bill Gassett is right: posting real estate related content (always your AR blog, for example) keeps reminding your "friends" that you are a real estate professional and an expert in your field. Marketing 101 says to hit them from every angle you can, facebook is certainly an easy one to include.

I am close to 500 now myself, and also set up the SoCal CRS group for our Southern California CRS members and others. I hope to listen it and I am sure there is more I can do with Facebook than I am. I just connected with my daughter who is LA! Will this be recorded for folks who cannot make the call?

I love Facebook. I've been able to reconnect with many old friends that are still in the area. I know eventually it will produce business but I'm happy with just touching base and keeping up with friends and family!

Brad - sorry for the above three - I was getting a msg that said Proxy Error - The proxy server could not handle the request - so i thought my comment wasn't submitted.

Oh Lawdy! I've already got so many "network sites" that I'm meeting myself going & coming! HA!

Gosh it seems hard to believe that Facebook has been around since 2004.

Ah...This post explains why I'm suddenly being friended by a bunch of people on facebook. Just knew someone had to have written a post about it.

I have friends from all over the country that are making contact with me on FaceBook. Some of them know other people in this area... hhmmm..

Facebook is such a great resource. I need to get more pic's on there, but we have reconnected with many old friends and actually got leads from our exposure.

A friend convinced me to join Facebook recently, and I have already connected with old friends. Facebook was a topic of discussion at our recent office holiday party. Many people haven't heard of it, or think it's for kids.

I also keep in touch with my brother on there who moved away. It's neat I like it, although it's hard to keep up with "what are you doing right now?" unless you're on it alot.

If anyone wants to add me, feel free to go ahead.

Brad--Has anyone thought of using the new Facebook friend connect either to integrate this site with Facebook or to add AR features to Facebook. I really think something cool could be done.

I'm on facebook. At first my daughter was a little freaked, but now she keeps in better touch with it.

I initially joined Facebook to connect with my high school friends for our 20 year reunion, but I have quickly learned what a great networking tool it can be!

Crap! I guess I'm going to have to create a 2nd Facebook account now too. It's so difficult, keeping my YouTube partnership money rolling, without letting my promors for YouTube cross paths with my real estate marketing. *sigh* Why do there have to be so many freaks on YouTube?

Help! I'm confused on the times....will it be noon Mountain time?

My biggest problem is the search feature.

If I think to myself: "Self, what do you think ever happened to old so and so......" I can't just go look em up. I get too many results.... or am limited to my geographical area.

Funny...that is how I stayed in touch with my "real son" (college style). He graduated and somehow I didn't think that there was something beneficial for me as far as the business...but I guess i need to revisit this idea, don't I?

What does it mean to be active. I stop by every other day and make a comment but not all the time.

Brad - I'm starting to do some more Facebook. Pretty funny, but just as I started to pay a little more attention to it, all kinds of old friends that I grew up with have all started to pay attention there, too! Now I need to get past having fun throwing snowballs at each other all the time & focus on adding more time for business too.

Brad I had to laugh because I joined facebook for the same reason you did. I have 3 in college all at different part of the state and as my middle child says I use it for parental cyber stalking. I check out the beer pong games, the GA/FLA game pics and so much more. Amazing to say that I have never asked any of their friends to befriend me but so many of them have much to my children's dismay. ( I actually think it is pretty funny) and yes I have sold a house from FB. to one of my oldest daughters college friends whom I had never met. In the office we refer to it as FB crack since it can become very addictive.

Hi Brad, I have to show property tomorrow and wondered if you will be recoding the show so I listen to it anyway. If you record it as a podcast, I can get it download on my iTouch.

Enjoy facebook, Seems more like a way to connect with old friends from lifetimes past. How do you see using it for real estate Brad?

I've been on Facebook for awhile now for the same reason as you. My daughter is in college on the east coast and it was a way for me to see what she was doing...but she didn't want to be my friend at first! ha ha..since then I have found it to be a great networking tool and way to keep in touch with friends.

You are lucky that your college son allows you to be his "friend"! My college boys said it was creepy for old people like me to be on facebook and they don't want to be embarrassed by my postings on their wall. It has become popular with all ages though.

My mom, who lives in OK, called me yesterday and said she liked my hair cut! I asked her what she was talking about and she said she just saw my photo on Facebook! She is in her 60's and does not own a computer...I don't know why I thought that was worth sharing but she was thrilled to see my profile. My brother was over and showed her.

So Brad I guess I am just trying to say I am with you on the Facebood thing....it is a great place to be a part of...along with AR.

It's official. Brad is "totally stoked"! LOL. Brad, do you have a secret surfing habit?

You are TOO GOOD to me, Brad! You KNOW that I totally love helping you with the show. I have to tell you that the chatroom was OFF THE CHARTS ROCKING today!! We had the BEST OF ACTIVERAIN represented there...but there is ALWAYS room for more.

I had a goal of 50 chatters...and we actually got to 59 in the room AT ONE TIME. However, when you count the ones who came in and stayed a while...but had to leave...we were OVER 60! HOW AWESOME IS THAT?

MY GOAL FOR NEXT WEEK: 100 CHATTERS!!!
