U S Treasury

When the U.S. Treasury was given the authority to spend $700 billion to stabilize the U.S. economy, Congress created a Congressional Oversight Panel (COP) to "review the current state of financial markets and the regulatory system."

One of the duties of COP is to compile reports to guarantee that the Treasury's actions are in the best interest of the American people.

On the News tonight Elizabeth Warren, a Professor of Law at the Harvard Law School and the Chair for the COP panel discussed the availability of the first report  released to the public.

At this time, the panel consists of four members.      Elizabeth Warren, Professor of Law

                                                                                        Jeb Hensarling, U.S. Congressman

                                                                                        Richard Neiman, Superintindent of Banks

                                                                                        Damon Silvers, AFL-CIO

This first report is compiled of the Ten Questions from COP and their Discussions.

                         1.  What is Treasury's Strategy?

                         2.  Is the Strategy Helping to Stabilize Markets?

                         3.  Is the Strategy Helping to Reduce Foreclosures?

4  What Have Financial Institutions Done With the Taxpayers' Money Received So Far?

                         5.  Is the Public Receiving a Fair Deal?

                         6.  What is Treasury Doing to Help the American Family?

                         7.  Is Treasury Imposing Reforms on Financial Institutions that are taking Taxpayer Money?

                         8.  How is Treasury Deciding Which Institutions Receive the Money?

                         9.  What is the Scope of Treasury's Statutory Authority?

                       10.  Is Treasury Looking Ahead?

In the weeks ahead, COP will be holding a series of hearings to discuss the causes of the financial crisis.  Their first meeting will be next week in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The next two public reports will be released on January 10 and January 20.  One of these reports will include a road map of a system to revitalize Wall Street, protect consumers, and ensure future stability in our financial markets.

You can view this report at    cop.senate.gov  and read the complete discussions of these questions and learn more about COP and read a complete bio on the people involved in this panel.  The intro of this website begins with a very interesting video from Elizabeth Warren explaining what COP is trying to do for the American people.

The Website also includes a form page ASK A QUESTION OR TELL YOUR STORY  where the American people can interact with this panel!  I urge you to click on this link and fill out this form and talk to this panel.

PLEASE....this is an opportunity for the American people to speak out.  If you have a story to tell....tell it!  If you have a Question to ask....Ask it!  If you have an opinion to share....Share it!  If you have a suggestion to make...Make it!

YOU ARE THE VOICE OF AMERICA!

We as United States Citizens must all do our part

to bring America out of this Financial Crisis that we are in!

                  God Bless the USA

GOD BLESS THE USA

AND GOD BLESS THE AMERICAN PEOPLE THAT NEED TO BE RELEASED FROM THIS FINANCIAL STRAIN!

Any time I hear the words government and "strategy" all in the same context, I get very nervous about what's going on.

Nervous came a long time ago!  Had the government took the iniative months ago, we would probably not be in the dier straights we are facing today.  Of course it is better for the gov not to intervene but we were spinning out of control in our industry and we were about the only ones facing hardship.  Once it got to such gigantic proportions that the entire economy was in turmoil then talks began.  At this point, everyone needs help.

This is the best explanation I have seen breaking down the COP and their duties.  We all need to tell our stories and hope somewhere along the way we get some relief and start re-building this wonderful Country in which we live.  Thank you Debbie and this should be a featured post!

JL - For some reason I just can not picture YOU as nervous in the least!

Val - I was just so happy to learn that this form page existed where people could actually VOICE their opinions!  I hope that the people will do it.
