8 Comments on Forecasters predict active 2009 hurricane season
Simon- Hurricane predictions are used for ratings, audiences and the media engages in fear tactics. The insurance companies are out of whack but that is nothing compared to the major insurance bill trying to slip through congress while we are all glued on about the economy, where in this bill, it would be mandated that we all, every one would have to buy health insurance from this company and if you don't you will get fined by Big Brother! What a scam. In this bill; you will have to carry alcoholism riders and balding riders whether you drink or not.
I was actually surprised that in 2008 the University of Colorado was actually close to their GUESSING. Granted Dr. Gray is not in charge anymore - they have a new guy leading this team of fortune tellers. It sure would be nice if they would just leave all this weather forecasting alone and stop scaring all the insurance companies and tourists.
Simon - one thing we can be sure of, insurance carriers will find a way to raise rates regardless of the forecast. It really doesn't matter how many named storms there are, just where they hit.
Simon,
How can they see so far into the future? I guess they really cannot!
Living at the beach and selling island properties, I agree that there is an effect when such negative reports are released.. as the 1st comment states, ratings and fear tend to sway forcasts every year. Heck, at least we can see them coming!
Same old sh*t, different year. Insurance is a JOKE, as is our government for letting the insurance companies continue to stick it to us.
I have to agree with Mike--they will use any info they feel is relavent to raise rates. I still don't know how these people can predict a whole season when they can't even get the weather for tomorrow right!
Have they never heard of the little boy who cried wolf? Now when they say "active hurricane season," most people yawn. Oh, yeah, except for the insurance companies who get all excited.
