Taradactyl avatarIn your marketplace I am sure that you have a look! Your signs are all branded with your logo or your shamrock or your picture. Your flyers also have your logo and hopefully any advertising you do looks like the rest!

BUT then you get online. Your broker website doesn't allow for much customization so you pick something that does match your offline look. You don't know how to format a square picture so you upload some kind of logo to include on diffent websites OR you don't know how to upload a photo at all so you skip that step.

Then you get an Active Rain blog and instead of making it match your branding look, you want something FUN - this is a blog right?

Then you have to put a picture on every site you register with and mostly they want square ones, but you don't know how to do that! AND you have all differerent pictures and are not careful to keep which one you use for what site consistent.

The fact that everything now looks different, different from each other online and in NO way connected to your online stuff doesn't matter you think.

Or does it...da-da-dah (scary sound from old movies)

Years ago I started getting called "dactyl" to pair with my name which turned me into a TARAdactyl. Some of my best friends never call me Tara, it is always TARAdactyl! Whenever I have to register with a user name I either use my company name (Marketing Artfully) or more often TARAdactyl! I have TARAdactyl on active rain in my heading, my email account is taradactyl at gmail.

COULD YOU DO THIS? Maintain a consistent user name?

Then there is my headshot picture ICK! I have pictures from about 3 years ago that I sometimes HAVE to use. They must have been 3 hard years because no one thinks they are up to date. I am 42 for heaven's sake - how much can I change in 3 years?!?!?!?! So I gave up on using a picture and started using my TARAdactyl Avatar whenever possible. It is catchy and different from all the other faces. I have also seen people who use a picture of their dog or a piece of clip art. Just keep it consistent and you will do fine!!!

How attractive an idea to NOT use a photo.  I kind of like your idea.  Sure makes for a lot less picture pressure.

I think that pictures are important and even more important that they really look like you.  Not just some glamor shot from 10 years ago, but one that was taken within the last 2-3 years...

@ Diane - My "girl" picture resembles me - that is better than a bad photo of me!!!

@ Laura - I have heard that I "have" to have my picture, I never really did and even had that girl on my yard signs - people recognized that A LOT more than a regular photo!!!

@ Mark - thanks...:)

@ Michael - The thing that I don't like is that will change A LOT over time and it makes it really hard to brand yourself with a picture.
