I posted this information earlier in the season but wanted to remind everyone now as it is getting colder out! 

With the heating season upon us and many people turning to wood or pellets as a main heat source in place of oil; I thought I would share some information I acquired some years ago about wood/oil Equivalent Values.  I hope you might be able to use these as a general guide.

  Construction Worker

Equivalvent Value of #2 Heating Oil in Gallons Per Cord of Wood.

ASH  161 g/c                       ELM 175 g/c                                 RED OAK 195 g/c              

BASSWOOD 121 g/c        HARD MAPLE 207 g/c                SPRUCE 129 g/c

BEECH 199 g/c                    HEMLOCK  128 g/c                     WHITE PINE  122 g/c

CHERRY  168 g/c                HICKORY  219 g/c                      BIRCH  187 g/c

Remember to burn only cured or dry wood

Clean the chimney flue at least once a year.

Never store refuse or flammables near your wood burner.

Never use gasoline or lighter fluid to start your fire.
