Last night, in the comments of a blog, Kristal Kraft was talking about how most of our posts are directed toward our own industry.  With few exceptions, most of the blogs here are written by real estate professionals FOR real estate professionals.  The blogs that are written for consumers are in the minority, and usually go without discussion, for obvious reasons.

I think our Realtor-to-Realtor modus operandi was actually the criticism that Joel Burslem of The Future of Real Estate Marketing waged when he wrote his updated review of AR about a month ago.

So, here is my question.  Other than the obvious SEO benefits, AND if you are not one of those bloggers writing directly for your clients/market, how are you using ActiveRain with your clients?

I am not looking for the things you love about AR. I know there are many.  Just specific uses with clients.

KK, I am not exactly what would make me the master box chatter, but I'll take that as a compliment.... ;-) OOOPs.  I am red in the face.  I just realized you meant Maureen McCabe.  How embarrassing.  She IS a great box chatter.

I think "Maureen, you are The Master of comment conversation, or as The Lovely Wife calls it "box chatting."

I love this place! " by Kristal means Maureen F. I don't know what a box chatter is but I am sure it is Maureen F.  since this is your thread.....

This is both awesome, awe inspiring and unbelievable 47 comments that has to be some kind of record.  Maureen, you are the Count of Monte Cristo, Machiavelli, and my hero.

I see a lot of comments about how these blogs are to "show another side" or that they are not not about marketing.  Let's face facts, Every Realtor is here to sell their service.  Every post, comment or profile is designed to create a sense of professionalism and technical know how to both the public and other Realtors® in the hopes that we get business out of it.

This is not Youtube or a free blogger account filled with board adolecentes looking for something to do and not caring what anyone thinks.  We all want to be seen as the type of person who can get the job done right the first time.  If you are righting for other Realtors® you are hoping that if anyone has a client moving to your area that they will remember you and if a client see you post then you want them to feel like you are exceptionally competent even if they do not really understand everything all of the implications in your post.

This is a big reason why you are highly unlikely to see a lot of @#%@ words or mindless drivel.  This is all about marketing.  I use my other blog, and probably my AR blog in the future, for deep linking and getting new content on my sites listed quicker, since the search engines seem to crawl blogs more often expecting fresh content on a regular basis.

I am trying to make my AR blog a little less formal but it is still marketing.  The bottom line is if you know somebody moving to my area, call me.  That is what we are all hoping for deep down.  Or maybe I am just being cynical today.

No I mean Maureen Francis (is that your middle or maiden name?).

I like Maureen McCabe but her spell checker is broken when she gets to my name.  :)

K R I S T A L  (no Y!)

Yes Maureen is a Box Chatter, but MF is a master at getting everyone to chat.  This one must be a record.

Maureen F. are you and over achiever???

Maureen,

While we're sure you have a dark side (reserved only for Dmitry), we hope you're no Machiavelli.  While he was a political genius, history associates him with corruption and totalitarianism based on the writings in his political essay, The Prince.  (Though, admittedly, this is an unfair association as The Prince was only written to gain favor with the Medici, who ruled Florence at the time.)

You're more of a Camillo Benso, who successfully united Italy in 1861.

Yea  Maureen, "Uniter of A/R"!   (now you have a title!)

Francis is my only name Kristal.  I offered it to Dmitry but he kept Koublitsky.

Kelli and Michael, who is talking??? Kelli or Michael?  I need to know, as a fellow split personality rainer.  You win my gold star for impressive knowledge of history.

Hi,

Michael is the voice behind the blogs and technology.  Kelli is the gorgeous face, amazing spirit and vibrant personality that caretakes our clients, our business and ourselves every day!  She is my "Lovely Wife!"

MF, Why am I NOT surprised. At you for not changing and for Dmitry for the same reason!

True that.

Though we are a bit more complex in our naming conundrum.

Kelli and I are both former widow/widowers. Her husband and my wife both passed away in 2001, so Sheppe is not her maiden name.

She did graciously offer that I could adopt Sheppe as my last name, but we have decided that at this point in our lives, our names are what they are.

Side note:  We recently sold a home to an engaged couple who were marrying later in life (she for the first time, he was a widower.)  They decided to combine each others names and both changed their names to (First Name) (Her maiden name) (His last name).

Using their system, I would be called Michael Sheppe Fournier.

Kristal,

Maureen is ABSOLUTELY an over achiever.  She’s also very competitive and smart as a whip!  I’ve seen her roll a group of Realtors to be the first one in line for a gas card…. True story!  She’s very scrappy!  However, behind all that mussel and brawn, is a heart of gold.

Michael Sheppe Fournier....!  He is the brains behind it all! A Navel Academy grad and smart as a whip!  He has a way with words verbally and in writting.  I am always asking him to send emails for me...i tell him what I want to say and he writes it beautifully!  I count my blessings everyday that our paths crossed (thank you Match.com!!) I have been in Chicago for 3 weeks on a family medical emergency and miss him like CRAZY!!  I will see you TOMORROW NIGHT baby! Thanks for keeping our business rolling!  YOU ROCK!  :)  Kelli Sorrentino Sheppe Fournier!  LOL

Ohhh, I like the Sheppe Fournier team.  Though we may need you to get two screen names so we don't get too confused.  I will be adding you as associates now.

Sara MF a MUSSEL?  As a Jersey Girl, Mussels are the black icky clam things you try not to step on at the beach.  What am I missing here?

I think the consuming public will evetually be very tied and attuned to AR and similar blog sites as the Internet continues to grow in number of users and ease of use. I am new to AR and appreciate all the ideas for using this great resource.

Too many good things here to comment on everything, but in John N's comments, he mentions content and quality and control. Just some food for thought, but could it be viewed by Sellers like said Sellers interviewing Listing Agents? Having someone make a lower quality listing presentation makes me look good. Just as the 'not as well written' public comments here will make John's postings (which are already awesome) look that much better?

This forum is perfect for my purpose of helping educate the public & real estate professionals about real estate auctions. It's new, different and carries many preconceived notions (correct/incorrect) - so education is key.

I use Active Rain to provide community information to my clients and keep them abreast of what's going on in our market.  If I keep up the blogging then I have less homework on the front end for client meetings.
