Schofield Barracks and Wheeler Army Airfield, Hawaii: An Introduction to The Surrounding Area (Chapter 1)

Schofield Barracks Hawaii and Wheeler Army Airfield Hawaii are across the street from each other. The mailing address is "Wahiawa" as far as the city is concerned for both of these installations. Schofield Barracks and Wheeler are just as close to the town of Mililani as they are to Wahiawa.
The main gate of Schofield Barracks is called "Foote Gate" and it opens onto "Kunia Road". If you take Kunia Road to the north, you will hit an intersection that if you go right, you can get on the H-2 Freeway or if you go left, you can go to the towns of Haleiwa and Waialua on the North Shore as well as the Helemano Housing Area. There are 4 other gates that open into the surrounding communites besides Foote Gate.
As I stated earlier, coming out Foote Gate would put you on Kunia Road. If you turn right out the gate and drive approximately 5 miles through the old Del Monte Pineapple Fields (this is a paved road with one lane in each direction. Speed limit varies from 35mph to 45 mph). Once you drive the 5 miles down Kunia Road, you will be in the town of Waipahu and the sub-division of Royal Kunia. There are many single family homes for sale in the Royal Kunia neighborhood that range in price from $400,000 to almost $1,000,000. If you want to search for homes in this neighborhood click on the website http://www.hawaiipcs.com/ to use the FREE Hawaii MLS Home Search Function. These homes are approved by the VA for VA Home Loan Financing. You will also find a condominium complex called Kulana Knolls. You can find 2-3 bedroom condos there that range in price from $310,000 to $425,000. These condos are also approved by the VA for VA Home Loan Financing. You will also find a Wal-Mart, Starbucks, Times grocery store, Dennys, gas station, Wendys and several other small shops and stores in this neighborhood.
Continuing on down Kunia Road you will run into the intersection of Kunia Road and the H-1 Freeway. If you get on the freeway and head east, you will be traveling in the direction of Kapolei, Makakilo, Waianae, Maili, Makaha and Nanakuli. You can also find numerous single family homes, condos and townhouses in these neighborhoods that are VA approved to use the VA Home Loan Guaranty. Getting on the H-1 Freeway and heading to the west, you will be traveling towards the cities of Aiea, Pearlcity, Pearlridge and Honolulu.

Schofield Barracks: Mililani, Wahiawa, Kapolei, Waipahu, Ewa Beach, Waipahu, Makakilo, Oahu, Hawaii Schofield Barracks and adjoining Wheeler Army Airfield are the 2nd Brigade, 3rd Brigade, Aviation Brigade, 45th Sustainment Brigade and the 8th Military Police Brigade. In addition, the 8th Theatre Sustainment Command, 65th Engineer Battalion, 25th Special Troops Battalion and the 556 Personell Service Battalion are also part of the Division team and play an integral role in the success of the Division.
There are also two Brigades that are stationed in other locations. The 1st Brigade is stationed at Ft. Lewis, Washington and the 4th Brigade is stationed at Ft. Richardson, Alaska.
The 25th Infantry Divison has proudly served in numerous wars and conflicts around the globe. The Soldiers that make up the division are currently deployed to several locations to include Iraq.
