Food drive for local food bank

Local food banks are having a tough time meeting the rising needs of people in our communities.

  • Need has 30% increased monthly since January of ‘08
  • The expect even higher demand in coming months
  • They have no reserved stores of food- Nothing “extra” to put aside for next year

My office is collecting non-perishable foods and money to help. Other local Realtor offices are also doing this in conjunction with our annual Auction for Charity tomorrow. Hopefully this will help keep people from being hungry this winter. (And if you are reading this but don't live in Thurston County, please take a moment and find out how hard hit your local food bank is this year. The needs are growing everywhere.)

The food bank says they especially need canned fruit at the moment. But ANYthing is worth giving.

Want to help?
You can drop off donations at my office through the month of December. We are just off I-5 Exit 107 at 3009 Pacific Ave SE in Olympia. We will be collecting all month long.

Sarah, these numbers are very similar to what we are seeing here in Maple Valley. Fortunately, our community has a tight network and we are rallying for the cause. There's so much need, every little bit helps!

Sarah:  I believe the entire US is in need of food donations.  I know our church mentioned the food closet was getting low as well.  We have the opportunity this year more than ever to make an impact and show we are a caring people!

With the increase in umemployment and layoffs, the foodbanks are really stretched thin. I hope you all are able to collect a lot of food. I posted about Knoxville's Empty Stocking Fund on Thanksgiving Day. It is on another blog, but you can read it HERE (it will open in another window).

Sarah,

Locally my wife and I have been making donations to the food bank and the Salvation Army.

Donations are down here, too. Everyone gets hit in these down times, especially those who already have little...

Sarah ~ Great reminder, I have heard that the food banks are low.  All the agents in our office brought food for the food bank to our last meeting.  We had several bags to deliver.

Hi Sarah... Food Banks seem to be hurting all across the country.  At our MLS area meeting this week everyone brought canned goods to donate, but it's going to take more than all of us to help them out.  That's why it's important to spread the word among friends, clients and colleagues to make sure that these organizations that give so much to others are able to continue doing that.

It is a good thing you are doing. All the food banks and toy drives are in need - more so this year because of the economy.

Wow- great to have so much response. And I hope you are all able to do something similar in your own communities. One of the things I have done is sent out a note to my clients that we are doing this. And I am going to be calling them to see if they would like me to pop-by and pick up anything when I am nearby.

Donations are down this year. However I pray that more people will give. Even though things are not going the way we want it,we should be always thankful that God is a great God who loves it when people bless the poor. Good luck to you on your annual auction for charity. And thank you very much for commenting on my blog. Have a great day. Great post.

Sarah, How come you guys get a Christmas tree? Not fair!

12:39pm • #13

Oooo- You didn't get a tree??? Hmm... I think Kim likes to hack down trees. Perhaps she got tree happy? Not really sure as it just appeared :) But it does set off the ever-growing pile of food, right as clients walk into the office at the top of the stairs.
