Schofield Barracks and Wheeler Army Airfield, Hawaii: An Introduction to The Surrounding Area (Chapter 2)

My last blog covered Schofield Barracks and Kunia Road down to the interchange with the H-1 Freeway. In this blog, we will go beyond that interchange and continue in a southern route.
"Kunia Road" turns into "Ft Weaver Road" at the interchange. Ft Weaver Road continues south and goes past "Westloch", "Ewa Villages", "Ewa", "Ewa by Gentry" and "Ewa Beach". You will also find the military housing areas of Iroquois Point and Kelaeloa (Barbers Point) as well. It may sound like a long way but it is actually only about 4 miles and approximately 6 traffic lights from the intersection of Ft. Weaver Road and the H-1 Freeway.
This is the stretch of road that gets A LOT of criticism because there are only 2 lanes moving in each direction. During the rush hour in the morning and the evening, you can count on this simple 4 mile drive to take you about 20 minutes to get through. This is my thought on that......the homes in Ewa Beach are some of the most affordable, largest, newest, central air conditioned, most modern built, steel frame construction or treated wood construction, with garages and a nice size piece of property on the entire island. THAT'S WHY THERE IS A LOT OF TRAFFIC...BECAUSE PEOPLE ARE FINDING OUT WHAT A GREAT PLACE IT IS TO LIVE AND RAISE A FAMILY! There are a few new home developers in Ewa Beach. Primarily you can check out the Ewa by Gentry homebuilders that are constructing single family homes in the Cypress Point, Haleakea and Tuscanny II subdivisions. These homes range in price from the low 400's to well over 1 million dollars. You will also find the Ocean Pointe community which boasts 30 models ranging from townhouses to expansive single family homes featuring over 3,000 square feet of living space. Schofield Barracks: Mililani, Wahiawa, Kapolei, Waipahu, Ewa Beach, Waipahu, Makakilo, Oahu, Hawaii Schofield Barracks and adjoining Wheeler Army Airfield are the 2nd Brigade, 3rd Brigade, Aviation Brigade, 45th Sustainment Brigade and the 8th Military Police Brigade. In addition, the 8th Theatre Sustainment Command, 65th Engineer Battalion, 25th Special Troops Battalion and the 556 Personell Service Battalion are also part of the Division team and play an integral role in the success of the Division.
There are also two Brigades that are stationed in other locations. The 1st Brigade is stationed at Ft. Lewis, Washington and the 4th Brigade is stationed at Ft. Richardson, Alaska.
The 25th Infantry Divison has proudly served in numerous wars and conflicts around the globe. The Soldiers that make up the division are currently deployed to several locations to include Iraq.
