With the OPEC indicating that they have started the ball rolling on reducing production of oil for the world market, I say challenge us!

Here's a link to a video on magnetic technology and how it would work as a car engine.  My question is:  WHERE WAS THE AMERICAN AUTO INDUSTRY, WHEN SOMEONE THOUGHT THIS OUT?

With all of our wonderful American & Canadian engineers who are extremely creative and highly skilled, Detroit executives should give them  unlimited resources to create the next generations of Green engines and ultimately produce a solution to our energy draining cars and trucks.

I sometimes believe the auto industry was sleeping with the oil industry to keep our dependence on oil!!  And here we are BAILING THE AMERICAN AUTO INDUSTRY OUT!  Shouldn't the Oil Industry come to there rescue?

If we can have batteries in cars from other country's auto industry, why can't we have magnetism also???

What do you guys & gals think of this wonderful technology.  What can we do to help this transition happen, so our dependence on oil just becomes a bad nightmare that will ultimately go away!

If you have a chance watch the movie Who Killed The Electric Car.

Knowing the histories of the car and oil industry it is especially disgusting watching them complain about not being competitive when they intentionally have buried technologies that would have kept them competitive. I find it hard to believe that in 2008 we have few if any cars that get 30 MPG especially when this was easily achieved in the 70's and 80's and probably even earlier and that was when cars were made out of STEEL!

I feel bad for the people losing jobs but these companies have never cared one bit about their employees and I see no reason to reward their incompetence.

Ann-Marie, I watched the video and this is an interesting theory. Could possibly work, if they could get the RPM's high enough. Looks like the technology is there.

Ann-Marie, this and other technologies can help us towars energy independence from the oil industry.  Unfortunately our politicians and many of our own habbits are hard to break.

This stuff should have started in the 70's when we faced our first oil shortage and should have known more was to come.  Now with oil prices dropping, are we going to forget again?

Shane has it right. The car companies have done this to themselves, and if we reward them with a bail out, they will do it again. Harsh, but true.

I think there will certainly be some cool technologies that come out of this auto drama. I hope sooner rather than later, and this one looks like a cool one.

Hi Shane,

I haven't seen the movie "The Electric Car", but I will try to get it here in Canada, otherwise, when I visit my 84 yr old Aunt in Staten Island, NY Christmas week, I'll get it then!  I too curious now, to see it for sure...

My question is:  When will the auto executives get their act together, and actually EARN THEIR FLAMBOYANT HIGH SALARIES, WITH PERKS, instead of just getting their salaries based on "JUST BREATHING".......

If you watch the film Roger and Me you will see what they did in the 80's to Michigan auto workers, laying off tens of thousands of people and then Roger the CEO back then giving himself a multi million dollar bonus. It is sickening.

The auto industry and oil companies have successfully lobbied congress for decades to keep out competitive technologies. It is not coincidence that we have huge energy issues. Take for instance the simple battery, the car companies bought out competiing technologies and buried them so that Electric Cars would disappear. In the first half of this century Los Angelos had one of the largest intercity transit systems which was bought out and systematically dismantled forcing people to drive cars. Now look at LA today. We also had a very large rail system that was very efficient and that was bought and dismantled forcing companies to use trucks, forcing more oil usage. Its crazy but true. Our politicians let it happen while they filled their pockets with oil money.

Ann-Marie:  That was a pretty incredible concept put forth in that video.  I would love to see it on a much bigger scale... in a form that could actually run an automobile engine.  What a great thing that would be.  Thanks for sharing.

Hi Michael,

I hope in this time of our history, I believe the technology is there, but we just need to try harder implementing the technology and not just sitting on the patents.

Hi Gabe,

I believe that the time is for "Changing our habits" or we will be left behind as a North American continent.  We will just be digging ourselves into our own graves.    I agree with the philosophy of the 70's, our short-term memories was ignited by the oil companies buying the patents for the electric cars and other technologies.

Hi Greg,

There's a company out there in Long Beach, California that called the "Electric Car Co" and they make a few models on various electric cars.  If you scroll down to my "LINKS" on the right side of this page, you'll find the site.  I wish they would put one of these over on this side of the planet.  LOL

Hi Shane,

I really hope our country doesn't repeat history, we can really get energy projects  accomplished and really do the right thing as a country.  I now, will check out 2 vidoes during my break in NYC.  LOL

Hi Karen Anne,

I hope your feeling better!!!  I'm just getting over this Head Cold/Chest Cold and skipped my "Royal LePage (Broker's) Christmas party last night!!!   I really hope that the American & Canadian public understand that OPEC WILL raise their gas prices after a few months, and hopefully they'll see "the writing on the wall".  This country really needs to take charge of their energy policies and realize that the "oil & gas years" are very, very, very numbered.

Ann-Marie, I have a nice little electric car manufactured in Canada.  It goes 35 mph, with a range of 35 miles.  It gets me everywhere I want to go around here except the interstate.  Detroit needs to stop thinking in terms of speed and range, and start focusing on the driving habits of the American public.  I would venture to say, 90% of us drive less than 50 mph going to and from work and running errands.  At the height of the gas prices I was saving $45-60 per week using my electric vehicle, and the drain on the electricity grid was not apparent on my electric bill as it uses a trickle charge system.  Time for Detroit to wake up and make cars we  need, not cars they want us to drive!

Ann-Marie, It is very unfortunate that the Technology has been around for so long and the US Automobile Industry tried to slow it if not stop it....Now that we had a global financial meltdown they are scrambling.Ironically, Toyota & Honda have been on the forefront and can produce a Hybrid for $20k less then the US Automakers, they will make th transition but at such a huge expense....Since we bailed out financial institutions, I believe we need to protect the many workers that would be effected by the bankcrupcies of the US Automakers hence we need to bail them out, BUT with controlls and checks and ballances. Have a great Holiday.

I heard ford has a bio-diesel car that gets over 50 miles to the gallon, it's made over sea's but they wont bring it here because the government taxes are too high on diesel. Catch 22
