Davie Residents are invited to come out and laugh for a good cause on April 27, when the Hope Outreach Center hosts its third annual comedy night.  The event features two of the most popular personalities on the national comedy scene, Kenny Rogerson and Patty Ross.  It will be held at the Police Officer's Association Hall, located at 4500 SW 13 Street (one block south of Davie Blvd, one mile west of SR 7), and it begins at 8:00 pm.

Proceeds from the comedy night will be used to support the Hope Outreach Center's food pantry and children's enrichment program.  HOPE, which stands for "Helping Other People Everyday," was started 11 years ago when the pastor of St. David's Catholic Church, Father O'Riley, saw people he felt were falling through the cracks, according to the center's current president, Beth Azor.  Parishioners responded to Father O'Riley's idea to provide help to the people in the community whose income was not low enough to qualify them for government subsides, but who were unable to provide for their families adequately, and the center was born.

Hope Outreach Center serves the residents of Davie, Cooper City and Dania primarily, but will not turn away anyone who approaches them for help.  In addition to meeting the needs food or cash, they help people from outside the area find community services in their area.  Beth Azor says the Davie police often alerts them to the people who need help who are not aware that the center is a resource they can turn to.
