If you live in Arizona be sure to check the new laws about license plates that will take effect on January 1, 2009. Letting this date creep up and not checking to see if your plates are in compliance can end up costing you a fine. Check out our other blog to see all the details about this new issue Arizona drivers need to check out . (Don't worry if you are visiting Arizona from another state, this won't apply to you.)

Click to our blog that covers this issue - http://benjamin.com/phoenix-arizona/uncategorized/new-2009-arizona-license-plate-rules/ .. Carolin & Bob, just went on over to your outside blog to read and leave a comment but unfortunately, it would not allow me to log in so I couldn't leave a comment. Just thought you would want to know for further readers.

Have you found a place to order new license frames which are compliant with the new law?

I wonder why the State name doesn't show. I've looked at some of the drivers here and I can read the State on their plates.

Carolin,

To answer Christine's question, most dealers are providing new (and compliant) license frames for free!

Here in California, the expiration date and the license plate numbers also have to be visible. Those full-plate plastic covers that turn dirty and yellow are not allowed if they obscure anything. Interestingly, the dealers here put their huge frames on the license plates that cover half of everything.

I have a custom frame that has my Website on it.  The top of it blocks the Arizona word.  It is plastic so I was going to see if maybe the top part of the frame could be cut off with a jigsaw.  If it works, great, if it doesn't and I ruin the frame that's ok because I'll have to take it off anyway.

Bob & Carolin - license plates can be such fun. In Rhode Island we had 788, which could only be transferred to a relative. Here in Florida we have 25, 31 and 36 - unfortunately 1931 Dussenberg prices have always stayed just beyond our affordability.

Is this a new way for the government to make money in 2009? How much is the fine?
