GLENDALE HISTORY:  The New England Land Company created the city of Glendale in 1892. The company purchased the land for the Church of the Brethren of Illinois. It began as a religious and temperance colony.

However, the city soon became a trading center for pioneer farmers. At one time, the area was an ostrich raising center for women's plumed hats and had a giant sugar beet factory. Later, it was an icing center for railroad cars transporting produce to the east. "The City of Perpetual Harvest" is the nickname that was given to Glendale early on. The nickname seems to be a good description of the city. World War II brought servicemen from all over the United States and foreign countries to train at Thunderbird and Luke airfields in Glendale.

The American Graduate School of International Management ("Thunderbird") is internationally recognized as one of the best schools in the world for international business. Midwestern University is the first private health sciences school in Arizona. In addition, the Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine, Glendale Community College, and Arizona State University's West Campus are all located in Glendale.
