Big Mouth...Big Money?

By
Real Estate Agent with Sabinske & Associates, Inc. (Albertville, St. Michael)

Without my friends, I couldn't survive in this business. And, without my mouth, I'd be lost...

Without a doubt, being an only child has had its challenges, the least of which is that I had to talk to myself a lot.  Weird how things unfold.  I was at a home the other day, made friends with the child of the couple. He was so adorable and somewhat precocious which reminded me of me and my only child, too, so I could certainly relate!  I thought, this child will have to learn how to communicate so fully to relate to adult parents. Hmmm,   Which means he has to learn how to verbalize and get points across at a young age....HMMMM.  Which means he has to learn to sell himself.  Good thing his dad is a real estate broker, don't you think?  I mean, he might have an inside track to get a good job later in life...if we can just keep this thing together!

I always think the kids of real estate agents have a huge advantage.  They grew up in the business and understand what its like and they have all those contacts to move right in on.

It's a real advantage to be connected in the town you live in...I'm not, but have learned that being online has brought me new friends and contacts...

Suzanne...

Very interesting take on a subject that is near and dear to my heart. I was one of ten, and I have determined that I was "the lost child" and so my constant striving for attention exists to this day. (Hence, Dear Richard, lol)

That's why I am always fighting for points, for ranking, for getting noticed any way that I can. So blogging helps me with that. I can't shake it even after all of these years. I'm here, notice me! lol

I was not an only child, I have one older Brother, however I did and still do talk to myself a lot. I never seem to have much trouble being noticed when I want to though, I have the tendency to demand a little attention once and a while.

Is that characteristic only found in children who were the "only child"?  I think it goes both ways.  Children in large families often have to fight to be heard over the constant drum of noise that is their siblings.  We have 6 children but when one of them really needs to have the attention, they make it plain and clear - "hear me!"

I think, regardless of how many siblings you had to deal with growing up, that this is a great situation to be in. Rather to be outspoken than the quiet butterfly in the corner hoping to be noticed.  I soooooo feel for those children - mostly because I was one of them.

Hmm I was the "lost child" amongst many as well - Oh I was not neglected or anything like that but I had to speak up to be heard and actually probably got a way with a whole lot more having being the 6th child in line out of 7 ( My parents were worn out by the time they go to me)! I also learned from all the others not only "what not to do" but maybe a little of how to get away with something as well!  shhhh... don't tell them!   But also with that many kids -money was tight so if you wanted something you found a way to make extra money so you could get it cuz mom and dad didn't have it.  I talk more to myself NOW than I think I ever have (don't even say it...)

I had 2 sons, a year apart, so they were definatley not only childre, but now they are grown. I have a 2 year labradoodle and she is an only child, and definately knows how to make her wishes known to adults.

Yes, I agree that children of realtors have a huge advantage in the world. They absorb communication skills, negotiating skills, and solid work habits that can be transferred to so many different professions.

Oh, sure.  Write about me behind my back.  But, you are right.  This child will be able to at least speak in sentences, and hopefully he doesn't learn some of his father's bad habits!!!

Don's son is growing into quite a linguist.  Now, go look that up in the dictionary.
