Is it really is all about MeMe when it comes to Christmas?

Real Estate Broker/Owner with Respect Realty LLC 200311024

Rocking Horse by Frank Rohrer Sr (Picture by Todd Clark)I love Christmas... all the lights, presents and family. I love getting all the family together on Christmas Eve and seeing each other during these special times. Now, don't get me wrong, it isn't like that is the only time I see my family. My whole family gets together about once a month and I talk to my parents everyday. But, there is just something about Christmas that makes it different.

I was tagged for the Christmas MeMe by Jeannette Neerpat and I have to say I don't really enjoy these because I'm not one that writes on command very well. My posts are usually written months in advance and they were just off the top of my head as I was driving in the car.

The idea behind the Christmas MeMe is that if we could get just one present, what would it be? Now this is going to sound funny and it may explain the IOU Checker Board from my previous post that no one understood.

I WANT THAT CHECKER BOARD! You see this checker board wasn't a checker board that you could buy at a store. My mom made these boards for Christmas Bazaars and the Grandfather made the checker board pieces out of wood. He was a toy maker, but my mom ran out that year and promised me one that I never got.

Unfortunately, my grandfather passed away before I could ever get the checker board. Now, I still joke every year with my mom that what I would really love is to have that checker board, but what I would rather have is my Grandfather back. He was a kind person who loved kids, no matter how much he pretended he didn't. You don't make wooden toys for kids if you don't like kids.

I still have a lot of my grandfather's toys and my kids are still playing with them on a daily basis, but just one more Christmas would have been nice.

The Christmas MeMe Rules:

  1. You have to name one gift you would like to have on Christmas.
  2. It has to be an object. We all want happiness for Christmas.
  3. If you could pick one single gift out for yourself-what would it be?
  4. Remember-it has to be something you can touch and hold....

Once you have done this, name five people or more and send this to them for them to name the one special gift they would like to have.

Now for my Five!

Awe - what a beautiful MeMe!  I wish I knew what an IOU check board was.  Even if I did and were to get it - it would be the same as what was created by your grandfather.  Thanks so much, Todd - this really put my morning in perspective!

WOW!  Everything is plastic from China these days and I love stuff like that - hand made in the USA to withstand years of enjoyment!

In your picture you have a wooden rocking horse.  My son got one his first Christmas and it is still displayed in my house even though I don't have anyone to use it.  It is an heirloom to be treasured until I get put in a nursing home :)

Bryant - I do miss him, that is for sure. My parents buying his old house really helps around the holidays though.

Janice - Thank you and Merry Christmas to you!

Kristin - I just want my IOU Checker board.

Leesa - It basically means mom didn't have it done and wrote me an "I OWE YOU" - "IOU"

LaShawn - At this point, someone would have to find one of the ones he made when he was alive at a garage sale and get it that way.

Mary - Grandpa was a lot of fun, I really enjoyed working in his shop.

Renee - Plastic! Bring on the wooden toys any day!

Fred - Snow / Rain mix but I'm guessing tomorrow morning I won't be holding any open houses!

this sounds like a great gift.  My grandpa used to make Marbles boards and I wish I had it.  Don't really know where it ended up.  All the blessings of the season and Merry Christmas!
