Watching gas prices fall has been one of the most enjoyable experinces of the year for me.  On average I drive about 30,000 miles a year so any time gas prices come down its like I’m getting a raise.

Back on October 29th I wrote a post the day gas fell below $2.00 a gallon. In that post I jokingly speculated that gas would fall below $1.00 a gallon. It hasn’t happened yet but my fingers are officially crossed.

Gas Prices Kansas City

I’ve heard several different theories about why gas has fallen in price so sharply. I don’t claim to be any kind of expert but I don’t think its because people are driving less.  I’m sure like many markets gas prices are heavily manipulated but I’m not an economist so I don’t bother trying to understand.

All I know is that gas is cheap and apperently its getting cheaper by the day.  I’m grateful for these low prices. $4 a gallon was killing me during the summer.

If and when the prices do fall below $1 a gallon I will make sure to let everyone know.

Justin we never saw 1.29, but it did get to 1.37 at a few stations.  If I never see 4.00 a gal again it will be too soon.

Jack -- You said it that $4 a gallon gas was a killer.

Gas is anywhere from $1.55 to $172 here in NC, but I'm not complaining.  I honestly never thought we'd see gas below $2.50 ever again.  Justin I drive 30,000 miles a year also and high gas prices really ate into my budget.

Airline tickets increased during the summer when the price of gas increased.  One would expect airline prices to decrease now that the gas prices have decreased.  I wonder what would be the explanation from the industry.

The $4/gal should have never happened.  It was torture.

Too bad for all the speculators who bought oil at $100 a barrel or more.  I believe THEY are the reason that prices went sky high.  We'll see if that's true next July.

Jake --Having these lower gas prices has been very helpful.

Sun City -- I would think that both airplane tickets and food prices would decrease.

Trunda -- Agreed I hope it doesn't happen again.

Toula -- It's amazing to see how close gas prices are getting around the country.

Kenneth -- You could be right.

Anne -- I'm really hoping it gets below $1 that would be so awesome.

Wow Justin,  Here is it $1.59 and we are tickled about that.  Gas probably will be worth under $1.00 a gallon, but people will be buying it with $1.00 that is no longer worth a dollar anymore. Sad, but true.

Sandy -- Very true inflation is still a huge issue.

Greg -- What's surprising to me is that gas prices are getting so close across the country.  Just a few months ago there was significant variance from state to state.  Even your just 10 cents away.
