I was recently chastised by a reader for not including an apostrophe in Pikes Peak.

Just to set the record straight, according to Wikipedia in 1891, US Board on Geographic Names recommended against the use of apostrophes in names.

Additionally, in 1978 the Colorado state legislature passed a law mandating the use of "Pikes Peak" only.

So if you're an Old Timer, pre 1891 or 1978, go ahead and use Pike's Peak...Just understand, the rest of us have the State Legislature on our side.
